With a budget of over $150 million and more than 1000 sworn and civilian members, the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) requires a Technical Writer, Policies and Procedures.

As the Technical Writer, Policies and Procedures
You Will :
Facilitate the composition, review and maintenance of all new and existing internal policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with all applicable legislation, organizational mandates and industry best practices;
Conduct research on proposed legislative changes; identify policies and procedures requiring revisions;
Provide rationale and / or potential implications regarding procedural amendments;
Develop standardized templates, processes, and language to maintain consistency amongst policy and procedure documents across the Service;
Track and monitor standard review dates for all policies and procedures, and ensure that all documents meet review deadlines where applicable; and
Maintain master copies of approved policies and procedures, and ensure that the most up-to-date version is posted to the Intranet.
You Have :
Comprehensive knowledge of researching and developing policies, procedures, and standards; normally, acquired through the successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Public Policy, Business Administration, Communications, or other related field required;
Three (3) years’ experience in conducting research and developing / writing policies and procedures required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered;
Excellent time management and organizational skills;
Strong collaboration and relationship management skills;
Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of best practice policy and procedure development; and
A valid Class G’ Ontario driver’s licence with no more than six (6) demerit points.
You Are :
Able to quickly acquire knowledge and understanding of Region of Waterloo and WRPS policies, procedures, and practices;
Able to reference, interpret, and incorporate all applicable legislation into new and existing policies and procedures;
Able to reference, interpret, and understand new and / or unfamiliar regulations that may affect WRPS policies and procedures;
Able to participate as an effective team member and to support and project values compatible with the organization; and
Able to meet the testing and police security requirements for the position.
