Job Description :
Position : RESIDENTIAL COUNSELLOR Full time asleep overnight
Residence : Briley Children’s Residence
Rate of Pay : $15 / hourly rate, flat rate of $50.00 from 10pm-6am
Briley Children’s Residence includes two residences that support the needs of children and youth in care. Briley utilizes evidence-
based behavioural programming to support females between the ages of 8 and 17.
PRINCIPLE OBJECTIVES :
To determine and meet the physical, emotional, and psychological needs of each child and youth in our care.
To assist each child and youth with the attainment of meaningful, achievable, and measurable goals.
To teach each child and youth foundational social, behavioural, vocational, and educational skills and build their core competencies.
To provide family support and after-care where possible and in conjunction with Family and Children’s Services.
To use an evidence-based approach to understand and reduce any interfering behaviour(s).
The Residential Counsellor reports to the Director, Supervisor(s), and the Behaviour Therapist at Briley Children’s Residence.
The Residential Counsellor will perform the following duties and demonstrate the following abilities :
Work with the Supervisor(s) to facilitate activities and daily programming for children and youth in consultation with the Supervisor(s)
Manage and administer medication
Implement group and individual behaviour management programs; engage in and support data collection procedures and behavioural assessments
Complete tasks and duties as directed from the Supervisor(s)
Support children / youth with daily needs, crisis prevention, and counselling
Support children / youth with daily needs within a home / educational setting
Work closely with outside agencies and families
Wake and prepare youth for their school day.
Currently enrolled in or completed a post-secondary program in a related field (Behavioural Science, Child and Youth Care, Developmental Services, Social Services, Community and Justice Services)
Current First Aid and CPR
Current Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) certificate
Current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check including a vulnerable sectors check
Consent to a Child Welfare check
Valid driver’s licence and satisfactory driver’s abstract
Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities in a residential setting
Experience working with children and youth demonstrating challenging behaviours
Knowledge of applied behaviour analysis and experience implementing behavioural support plans
