Position Overview :

Reporting to the AVP & Senior Business Compliance Officer for Individual Customer in the 2nd line of defense, the Manager, Individual Customer Compliance will provide independent compliance oversight related to the Individual Customer business unit at Canada Life.

In this role the incumbent will play a key part in the development, evolution and maintenance of compliance governance through the risk and compliance business partner framework.

This role will also be responsible for leading a team of compliance professionals accountable for monitoring business initiatives, monitoring regulatory developments and participating in compliance related projects.

A critical aspect of the role will be to liaise with key areas and stakeholders within Individual Customer.

Accountabilities :

  • Collaborate with business partners in Individual Customer to ensure appropriate compliance oversight;
  • Engage business partners in the development, evolution and maintenance of compliance governance through the risk and compliance business partner framework;
  • Participate in industry groups and monitor external developments that will impact Individual Customer;
  • Demonstrate subject matter expertise in compliance requirements for Individual Customer including insurance and securities regulation;
  • Generate management information and reporting related to compliance oversight;
  • Build, maintain and leverage key relationships both within compliance and with internal business partners to help advance compliance objectives;
  • Provide leadership and / or consultation to support team members as they execute specific compliance oversight;
  • Support the on-going development of both the team and individual team members by identifying opportunities for skills enhancement, increasing the breadth and depth of subject matter expertise and cross training.
  • Qualifications and Competencies

  • 5+ years of experience in a Compliance role, ideally within the financial / insurance industry
  • Professional certification / degree in finance, law or securities are an asset
  • Demonstrated expertise in regulatory compliance and / or knowledge of Individual Customer are assets
  • Proven organizational and management skills
  • Experience working with teams, including as a leader
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, including the ability to foster strong working relationships with business partners at all levels
  • Proven ability to influence without direct authority
  • Superior communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and trouble shooting ability
