Position Title : Knox Camps Director

Purpose :

To direct and oversee all aspects of the Day Camp Ministry of Knox Presbyterian Church.

Responsible / Accountable to :

Discipleship Pastor and the Knox Camp Team.

  • Have the heart of a servant of Jesus Christ, appreciating a role in serving the team and church to move forward the mission of the church;

  • Key Areas of Responsibility :

    Camp Programs

  • Camp : To oversee all aspects of the camp program (Biblical content and spiritual tone, activities, health & safety, camp rules and regulations)
  • Staff Training and Team Meetings
  • Camp Reunions (currently once a year, in September)
  • Day Camp Staff

  • Hiring : Overseeing the Hiring ProcessChildren’s Program Directors (1 or 2, or 1 and an assistant), Youth Program Director (1), LIT Director, Leaders (3 Senior, 3 Junior)
  • Training : To personally train the DirectorsTo oversee the training of the LeadersPrimary Resource : Knox Camp Manual
  • Evaluation : To assist the staff in setting goals, and to provide ongoing encouragement to and evaluation of Directors & the Day Camp Ministry prior to, during and after camp.
  • To ensure that the Directors do ongoing evaluation with the Leaders

    Administration

  • Budgets & Invoices : Following the approved budget for the current year and working with the Discipleship Pastor to keep the budget and to ensure the payment of invoices, transfer of itemized receipts to the Chief Administrative Officer providing financial updates to the camp team etc.
  • Salaried Staff : To oversee the administrative aspect of the hiring process (collection of applications, reference checks, setting up job interviews, entrance interviews re : expectations, staff contracts, payment schedule and exit interviews with Directors and Discipleship Pastor )
  • Staff Manual : To update Camp Manual in preparation for the new season.
  • Camper Fees : To oversee the collection of camper fees, camper scholarships, and assist Finance Team with issuing of receipts
  • Database & Web Updates : To ensure the maintenance of updated records in the Camp Database for campers, LITs and Staff (Volunteer and Salaried) and communicate what needs to be updated on the web site (knowledge of Squarespace is a plus, please note in application if applicable).
  • Correspondence (Emails & mail-outs) : Work with Director of Family Ministries to ensure proper information is getting to parents.
  • This may include : Camper Mail-outs : including promotional emails, information for registered campers, and receiptsLIT Mail outsStaff Mail outs

  • Camp Brochure / Postcard : development and printing
  • Post-Camp : Clean-up, laundry etc. after campPhoto development-assembling of photo albums and photo slideshow, if applicableUpdating the Knox Camps Manual for future yearsSubmit end of summer reportUpdate website with upcoming season’s rates and dates
  • Liaison & Resource Person

    To be a liaison and resource person, on behalf of the Knox Camp Ministry and committee, to the campers and their families, L.

    I.T’s, Staff, Knox congregation, neighbourhood and wider camp community.

    Pastor

    To oversee the pastoral care to the campers and their families, the L.I.T’s and staff, as well as others connected to the Knox Camp Ministry.

    Educational Requirements

  • B.A. in a field related to youth and / or camp, or near completion, or equivalent experience
  • Requirements

  • At least 3 years of involvement with camping or youth ministries
  • Experience leading a team
  • Experience in jobs requiring strong customer service skills a plus
  • Familiarity with Knox or Knox Camps a plus, but not required
  • An awareness of and sensitivity to the needs of children and families
  • Agreement with and adherence to Knox Church’s Lifestyle and Morality statement
  • A current clear Police records check
  • Required Skills

  • Able to work effectively in a multi-staff, team setting
  • Able to work independently
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient computer-related skills
  • Terms of Appointment

  • Ideally, a 2-year commitment (2019 and 2020 camp seasons)
  • Part time from March 1st (flexible, and will be discussed in interview)
  • 40 hours a week from May 1st through September
  • Compensation

    $15-$18 per hour depending on experience and related training.
