Key Accountabilities :
Accountable for month end close, financial reporting and analysis for complex and material financial accounts and balances in accordance with IFRS and company polices
Perform monthly accounting activities including preparation of non-recurring and complex journal entries
Understand, document and monitor business processes affecting financial results including identification and resolution of system, process and control issues.
Perform complex root cause analysis independently, recommend improvements and assist with implementation of complex solutions
Partner with the business to ensure compliance of end to end processes including communication, training, and process or policy changes as required
Provide leadership and support to Jr. Accountant and Accountant on advanced accounting processes and principles
Financial close of fixed assets, intangibles and accountable for cash and prepaids reconciliations
Perform analysis of significant balance sheet and income statement balances and provide commentary for variances to budget and prior periods
Ensure accuracy of the financial results in accordance with IFRS. Provide insights and explanations for underlying business drivers to senior stakeholders
Assist in preparation of monthly and quarterly external statements including Balance Sheet, Statement of Operations and Statement of Cash Flows
Assist in preparation of annual financial statements including note disclosures
Review complex business transactions and identify relevant accounting and reporting issues and system requirements
Assist in the preparation of the annual financial statements including note disclosures and supporting internal and external audits
Primarily responsible for all matters related to the following Accounting subject areas : fixed assets, intangibles, cash, prepaids and sale-leaseback accounting
Lead and support cross-functional special projects and continual process improvement efforts as assigned
The Ideal Applicant will have :
Post Secondary degree in Accounting or Finance
CPA (CA, CMA, CGA) designation an asset
5 to 10 years accounting experience
SAP experience, fixed asset module experience preferred
Advanced knowledge of IFRS
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint; advanced Excel skills including the ability to create and manage complex worksheets
Intermediate to advanced experience in ERP accounting systems such as SAP and Business Warehouse, experience with system implementations an asset
Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills for developing rapport with Corporate and Field management, ability to work with employees at all levels
Self-motivated, strong analytical, problem solving skills and ability to manage multiple competing priorities
Financial analysis capability
Ability to work outside the normal hours during month-end and other peak periods
