What is the opportunity?

As a member of the Labour Relations team, you will join our efforts supporting the Field Operations team to address all grievances activities in the province of Ontario and ensuring support to the management team in a fast, every changing industry.

You will work on a wide variety of subjects like, Attendance Management, Discipline, Performance ,management, WSIB claims along with tracking related procedures at all stages.

What will you do?

  • Acts as a first point of contact and is the Field Operations / Labour Relations resource for grievance handling of the clerical and technical collective agreements
  • Drafts and prepares grievances responses, case summaries, case analysis and researches jurisprudence to ensure best practice and consistency in grievance responses.
  • Provides counselling and support on all Labour Relations and Collective Agreement issues to all management levels as required
  • Assist Field Operations Directors with development and implementation of solutions through culture, processes and best practices while ensuring compliance of all internal policies and Federal / Provincial laws
  • Provide grievance management and progress reporting to Senior Management and Directors
  • Provide grievance support to management and senior management levels including extensive travel to attend preparation and grievance meetings, arbitration, mediation and tribunals as required.
  • Assists in preparing grievance files for meetings with the union at both the local and national level, and may maintain file carriage through to arbitration and / or any other required litigation
  • Correspond and work with the Legal Department as required on litigation cases, preparing for arbitration, mediation and or tribunals
  • Attends Union Management meetings quarterly with a view to building solid working relations and keep abreast of current trends and issues
  • The incumbent will work with various stakeholders to ensure that all pertinent and supporting grievance information is captured in the Grievance Management Portal and maintained up to file closure
  • May lead and / or participate in workplace investigations, and / or counsel internal / external investigators on best practices to ensure matters are escalated and dealt with in accordance with Company Policy and / or legislation
  • Creates and presents PowerPoint presentations and / or relevant material at monthly Regional meetings as required to ensure consistent implementation across the province
  • What do you need to succeed?


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations or a related field
  • 2-4 years of experience in labour relations
  • Strong knowledge of unionized environment and the ability to partner and maintain a strong working relationship with the Union.
  • Experience with labour arbitrations preferred

  • Very Strong working knowledge of Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven track record to establish strong collaborative relationships at all levels of management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, presentation and writing skills, including the ability to prepare quality presentations with minimal guidance and effectively present and influence at senior levels of the organization
  • Ability to adapt and work in a fast paced environment with minimal supervision and meet challenging deadlines
  • A natural leader, with strong organizational and planning skills, able to challenge the status quo, negotiate successful outcomes, manage change and deliver results
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and ability to thrive in ambiguous situations
  • Nice-to-have

  • CHRP / CHRL designation
  • Bilingualism (French verbal & written)
  • Working Conditions

  • Consultant, Grievance Management office hours are generally Monday to Friday standard business hours, with some evening and weekend work as required
  • Provincial Head Office and Work Centre Environment
  • Travel within Ontario may be required
