Position : Staff Product Design Engineer (Mechanical Engineering)

The NETGEAR Product Design is a team of highly skilled cross-discipline designers working together, across continents and cultures in a friendly, fast-

paced and inspiring work environment. We design and deliver technology products to a wide range of customers under our multiple brands : Orbi, Nighthawk, Meural and NETGEAR.

As a member of the Product Design team, you will be a leader responsible for the design, testing, performance, documentation and production of networking hardware targeted to the retail and small business markets.

These products are high-volume and all manufacturing is done in Asia. The successful candidate will manage from concept to production, the design and tooling of plastic and metal enclosures for networking products intended for use in homes and small to medium offices.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design, evaluation, testing, performance and documentation of products and components
  • Work closely with product design team, product marketing, internal industrial design and mechanical engineering and ODM partners to design new products or customization of existing products
  • Take leadership role to insure project goals of performance, cost and schedule are met
  • Work closely with 2nd and 3rd tier suppliers
  • Manage outside consultants and fabrication vendors
  • Some international travel is required
  • Skills and Requirements

  • BSME or equivalent experience
  • Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals required
  • Minimum 7 years experience in the fields of Product Design and / or mechanical engineering in computer hardware or a similar consumer-oriented field
  • In-depth knowledge of Creo / PTC software - demonstrable skills in creating complex surfaces and parts, assemblies and drawings
  • Understanding of die casting, plastics, adhesives, stamping, machining, and rapid prototypes
  • Understanding of tolerance analysis
  • Superior expertise in plastic injection molding and progressive-die sheet metal part design
  • Extensive design experience with high-volume, low-cost products
  • Experience with Agile database system a plus
  • Effective leadership, organization and project management skills
  • Proven ability and willingness to take ownership of project; ability to get the job done with minimal supervision
  • Experience in successfully leading projects through to pilot, mass production and beyond
  • Proven ability to track and resolve issues
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Self-starter that works well on a team
  • Fluency in Mandarin is plus
  • Reports to the Director of Mechanical Design
