To complement Kleinfelder’s current strong architecture, infrastructure, municipal, geotechnical, environmental, ecology, engineering, water, and material testing offerings, we are currently leveraging our facility design and engineering expertise in the Canadian offices to expand our service offering to current and new clients in the United States.

We are currently, and will be, executing projects in Washington State, Oregon, California, Arizona, Ohio, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Texas, North Dakota, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia, and Nevada.


To cover all relevant jurisdictions and expand our capacity, Kleinfelder is seeking Senior Electrical Engineer (s), located anywhere in Canada or the United States, with current American Professional Engineer (PE) designations in any states that would be willing to expand their registration to additional states to support a varying range of projects.

This individual(s) will be expected to provide electrical engineering and design expertise to engineering teams in both our Calgary and Edmonton offices, ensuring that technical excellence, cost, schedule, contractual, regulatory, and code requirements are achieved and will assist the team in satisfying the professional engineer stamping requirements of the local jurisdiction.

The Senior Electrical Engineer(s) will report to the Kleinfelder Calgary Electrical Engineering Manager and assist in, and play an active role in, project management duties such as, conferring with internal and external stakeholders across North America and preparing all necessary documentation.

This individual(s) will also assist the Electrical Engineering Manager in building and developing the electrical engineering capabilities and team across North America.

  • Please note that this position may be based out of our Calgary office and be anywhere from an independent contractor to a temp / flex role.
  • Also note that, the hours worked per week for this position will fluctuate and may not be consistent.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering discipline or equivalent.
  • American Professional Engineer designation (PE) is a requirement.
  • Canadian P. Eng. Designations are an asset.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical engineering field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive professional project management, project engineering or discipline engineering in the commercial, oil and gas or related industries.
  • Recent experience in executing multi-projects and multi-disciplined small to medium size projects.
  • Familiar with relevant electrical & industry codes (NEC, CSA, IEEE, API, ANSI, CEC).
  • Familiar with the development of studies, estimates, execution plans, single line diagrams, and other key design or project documents.
  • Working knowledge electrical analysis software such as ETAP and SKM.
  • Working knowledge of CAD design software and standards would be an asset.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite programs used to create reports and documents.

  • Execute electrical engineering activities with the objective of meeting the defined contractual scope to the relevant codes, standards, and company procedures.
  • Perform calculations including load studies, lighting levels, hazardous area classifications, junction box, distribution panel, and cable sizing.
  • Perform or support power system simulation studies such as arc flash, load flow, motor starting, short circuit, and relay coordination.
  • Stamp and issue drawings.
  • Analyze technical issues within the electrical engineering discipline, aided and supported by the other specialist disciplines.
  • Develop work plans and execution of strategies given schedule, budget, and scope constraints.
  • Develop project design criteria, design basis, capital estimates, and electrical specifications.
  • Develop specific electrical systems, equipment, skid and module packages design criteria, sizing, and specifications.
  • Perform detailed reviews of project electrical design specifications, design drawings, and standard detail drawings.
  • Provide drafters with modifications to technical drawings and work plans according to engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria for design team.
  • Review and ensure required corrections are completed by designers and meets project standards.
  • Report to the Electrical Engineering Manager on progress of work and ensure coordination between the engineering and design team.
  • Mentor and supervise junior team members.
  • Assist in the development of work practices and procedures.
  • Identify any slippages to schedule or budget and make changes accordingly to solve complex issue.
  • Assist in the creation of other project documents such as Requests for Information, Purchase Recommendations, and P&IDs.
  • Partner with stakeholders in proposal writing, marketing presentations, and organization of internal resources for assigned prospects.
  • Support the business development of Kleinfelder and liaise any possible opportunities.
  • Assist in creating work document packages during closeout of projects.
  • Travel to field for project scoping, verification, construction support, and meeting with clients.
  • Assist project managers and client account managers with business development duties as required.
  • Completion of other relevant duties as required.
