    Job Summary

  • As one of the company’s expert in Safety, Health and Environmental issues, the SHE Associate II is responsible for ensuring that the company is in compliance with all Safety, Health and Environmental regulations, as well as ensuring that the company is operating in a safe and environmentally responsible and friendly manner;
  • while promoting the company values of Values of Collaboration, Courage, Perseverance, Passion.

    Job Responsibilities

  • Program Leader for the HAZOPs or PHAs for processes and equipment.
  • Developing a physical demands analysis (PDA) for all job functions to assist API in the return to work (RTW) program process as well as work with 3rd party physiotherapy clinic to develop POETs.
  • Perform Ergonomic assessments as to prevent musculoskeletal injuries
  • Development and maintenance of an industrial hygiene program including industrial hygiene testing.
  • Identify non-compliant, incomplete or substandard procedures for activities involving employees and / or contractors in the facility and provide written recommendations for improvements.
  • Development and revision of company safety procedures to ensure adherence to all legislative regulations.
  • Accountable for developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety accident prevention programs.
  • Monitoring of compliance of staff and contractors with SHE policies and procedures as well as applicable federal and provincial legislation by having a frequent presence throughout the facility and conducting regular area inspections.
  • Engagement with employees to foster healthy and safe work practices.

  • Maintain WHMIS2015 program to ensure company compliance with all SDS, workplace and supplier label requirements.
  • Assist in WSIB Claims management
  • Emergency Response Team member, assist in trouble shooting (i.e. spill clean-up, determining fire alarm troubles, supervisory or alarm signals)
  • Educate employees while conducting workplace inspections to enable them to understand and apply interpretations of safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Develop training to reinforce internal procedures to maintain compliance with the all legislative regulations.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the API security systems (security access, security cameras and forklift card system)
  • Build relationships and work collaboratively with all levels within the organization.
  • Works as a member of a team to achieve all outcomes.

  • Performs all work in accordance with all established regulatory and compliance and safety requirements.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Job Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in science or engineering, preferably in chemistry or chemical engineering, is required. Furthermore, regulatory and technical SHE expertise, with at least three years related experience in pharmaceutical, chemical manufacturing, or industrial hygiene, is required.
  • Knowledge of internal safety procedures and all relevant legislative regulations such as WHMIS and the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the WSIA
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral,
  • Conflict resolution skills,

  • Create visibility and presence for Safety Values and Compliance
  • Ability to be self-directed and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines,
  • Ability to develop and facilitate Health & Safety training programs,
  • Ability to work with all levels of internal management and staff.
