Our client, a top tier law firm in the heart of Downtown Toronto, iscurrently seeking a bright and talented Intellectual Property assistant to workfor a friendly partner.

The position will assist practises in all areas ofintellectual property, so someone who knows the relevant procedures, statuesand legal terminology is preferred.

The ideal candidate will be familiar withpreparing trademark applications, filing documents and have some litigation experience.

Primary Duties Include

  • Preparation and drafting correspondence for professionalapproval / signature using precedents
  • Maintaining and updating due date lists, calendars and personalreminders of deadlines and pleadings
  • Conducting research and pulling cases from library / case catalogue
  • Preparing trademark applications
  • Attending to online filing and prosecution of trade mark applications
  • Ordering trademark searches and file histories
  • Reviewing pre-bills and supervising the issuance and delivery of bills
  • Updating database with changes in client contact and address information
  • Opening and closing files
  • Maintaining daily contact with clients
  • Faxing, photocopying, scanning
  • Other administrative duties as required
  • Required Experience / Skills / Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of experience working within Intellectual Property;experience with trademark prosecution is a must
  • Legal assistant diploma plus additional courses an asset
  • Knowledge of Federal Court and Ontario Civil Procedure rules is required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to work well underpressure
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while paying attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and client service skills
  • Confident and dependable, with strong initiative and ability to workboth independently and in a team oriented atmosphere
  • Strong technical skills (including Microsoft Office)
