Launched in October 2014, York University's new School of Continuing Studies (SCS) is rapidly expanding, revenue generating enterprise.
It is one of the largest and most innovative of its kind in the country. With unique course delivery models and top quality programs, the School will increase the University's adult and international student population and will be central to the University's overall growth strategy.
The School consists of two main programming divisions : (a) the English Language Institute (YUELI) that primarily offers English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programs, and (b) Continuing Professional Education (CPE) that primarily offers certificate programs.
This position is located in YUELI and reports to Manager, Administration. This position supports YUELI with student admission process and conversions.
In addition, the incumbent advises new students in order to ensure enrolment in the appropriate YUELI program and assists students with their York University undergraduate admission.
University degree is required. Bachelor of Education preferred or four years of recent related experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University performing the same or similar tasks.
This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.
Minimum 2 years related advising experience. 2 years of experience working in an ESL program, either public or private.2 years of experience in a university / college environment.
Post-graduate certificate in guidance counselling, academic advising or related discipline is preferred. Experience in a revenue generated unit is an asset.
Skills : Demonstrated proficiency of one of the following languages : Mandarin, Arabic or Japanese.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in compelling, concise, and accurate manner.
Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to connect with people in a courteous, professional, and effective manner.
Ability to use online resources and applications / tools.
Intermediate proficiency using Excel, PowerPoint and MS Word, Lotus Notes email (or equivalent)
Knowledge of and ability to use / apply a wide range of resources and / or strategies in complex situations.
Ability to work independently and / or cooperatively to accomplish objectives in an environment of competing priorities and constant interruption.
Exercise initiatives and collaborates as an effective member of a team to achieve and support unit goals.
Time management and organizational skills to simultaneously handle conflicting priorities, multi-task and meet deadlines.
