Cascades Containerboard Packaging

The Containerboard Packaging Group, a division of Cascades, is the largest containerboard producer in Canada, and is also a top converter of corrugated products in the country.

The Group manufactures a wide range of products made from recycled fibres for its North American customers in the food, beverage and consumer products sectors, among many others.

The Division, which employs close to 3,400 people, owns six containerboard mills and nineteen corrugated products plants in Canada and the United States.

Your challenge!

Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will be the leader of the multi-skilled maintenance team, upholding the company values and promoting Cascades' philosophy.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides coaching and support to the maintenance team in a non-unionized work environment.
  • Follows best practices and ensures the efficiency and quality of the mill's maintenance and reliability operations.
  • Works effectively with the Production team to coordinate and prioritize maintenance activities.
  • Promotes a safe work environment, ensuring policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Facilitates adherance to the annual maintenance budget.
  • Business Objectives Alignment

    Help draw up the maintenance budget to meet the unit’s business objectives

    Support his / her sector’s objectives as a maintenance / reliability manager

    Operational Excellence

    Ensure and / or facilitate the sector’s adherence to its annual maintenance budget

    Follow best practices and ensure the efficiency and quality of the unit’s maintenance / reliability operations

    Ensure operational excellence and eliminate issues by making recommendations to his / her manager

    Work with Production to coordinate and prioritize maintenance activities

    Support his / her unit’s operational strategy

    Human Resources

    Help employees reporting to him / her to develop their skills and make sure they receive the necessary training to carry out their responsibilities

    Help maintain a positive work environment by walking the floor and fostering two-way communication

    Manage and engage his / her staff based on Cascades’ values and business strategy

    Participate in and implement the talent development and succession strategy for the people under his / her responsibility, in collaboration with Human Resources, if needed

    Health & Safety

    Develop and maintain a healthy and safe work environment for all Cascades employees

    Help implement the OSH action plan

    Promote sound occupational health and safety management

    Personally commit to and display strong leadership in health and safety

    Corporate Responsibility and Governance

    Ensure compliance with laws, standards and regulations in effect for buildings and equipment

    Encourage and promote ethical conduct and uphold Cascades’ culture and values

  • Post-secondary education in an electrical or mechanical program with a licensed trade designation preferred.
  • 5-7 years of experience working in a supervisory or management capacity with preference given to unionized manufacturing experience.
  • Experience leading and maintaining preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Effective leadership, organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize in an environment of changing priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, SAP and maintenance management software.
  • Flexible and able to work overtime and be on-call and must have or establish residence within 30 minutes of our mill.
