OVERVIEW :

The Divisional Planning Manager is responsiblefor meeting or exceeding sales and profit objectives for several merchandisecategories, working in conjunction with Divisional Merchandise Managers andtheir respective buying teams.

This responsibility includes overseeing thedevelopment and successful execution of topside and store financial plans,assortment / buy plans, and merchandise allocation and size planning strategies.

The Divisional Planning Manager is responsible for the supervision, trainingand development of Planners and their respective Assistant Planners.

JOBDESCRIPTION :

The Divisional Planning Manager is responsiblefor meeting or exceeding sales and profit objectives for several merchandisecategories, working in conjunction with Divisional Merchandise Managers andtheir respective buying teams.

This responsibility includes overseeing thedevelopment and successful execution of topside and store financial plans,assortment / buy plans, and merchandise allocation and size planning strategies.

The Divisional Planning Manager is responsible for the supervision, trainingand development of Planners and their respective Assistant Planners.

Financial Planning - Partners with the DMM toconduct the Business Review. Coordinates the development of and reviews therecommended vendor / store matrix, and participates in communicating the storematrix to the stores.

Partners with Corporate Planning in the development ofthe Strawman and initiates and develops the departmental Strawman.

Initiatesand develops department sales and stock targets. Directs the development andfinalization of department level store sales plans.

Reviews and approves themonthly flow of department-level topside plans.

Coordinates and approves the formaldepartmental topside plan review, and assists in the group level topside planreview. Partners with Regional Planning in the communication of topside andstore plans to stores.

Coordinates the development of class and key item plans.Leads the planning team in recommending potential systems and processenhancements relating to planning and open to buy.

Participates in ensuringadherence to the company's planning calendar.

Purchasing, Allocation and Replenishment -Recommends best practices for assortment planning and reviews allocationstrategies.

Directs and monitors the creation of the assortment matrix and buyplans. Oversees the development of allocation tables and sizing contributiongrids.

Reviews allocation tables and store volume and other attribute clustersby merchandise category. Ensures and participates as needed in regularallocation strategy / issues sessions.

Guides micro-merchandising strategies tooptimally incorporate store demographics into the assortment and allocationprocesses.

Oversees the incorporation of store feedback into size planning.Reviews purchase order placement activity as well as the timely and accuratemaintenance of and revisions made to purchase orders.

Collaborates with buying team to identifydistribution and vendor logistics opportunities. Supervises the development ofcase pack and order flow recommendations.

Partners with the DMM on thedevelopment of store space strategies.

Manages and participates, as needed, inhandling store communications regarding allocations. Directs analysis tomeasure allocation effectiveness and supervises analysis pertaining to sizeselling.

Reviews transfer initiation requests and monitor merchandise transfersand locator activity. Supervises staff in providing systems expertise for otherusers (Buyer's Workmate, SPIN), and ensures and reviews recommendations forsystems enhancement requests.

Pricing and Marketing - Reviews advertisingand marketing plans. Participates in reviewing advertising effectivenessanalysis.

Visits stores as feasible. Reviews and approves Planning's timelyresponses to store visit notes.

Open-to-Buy Monitoring - Identifies andcommunicates divisional OTB monthly trends and direction to Planning teams.Reviews and participates in the monthly OTB (forecast sales and inventories).

Reviews inventory productivity (WOS, T / O) and recommends adjustments to businesstrends. Reviews actual to planned receipt performance.

Reviews performance via the monthly stockledger. Participates in the development of and reviews age of inventory / exitstrategies.

Reviews markdown projections and vendor allowance projections.Reviews all pertinent factors (MU, MD's, VA, etc.) relating to profitability.

Merchandising -. Monitors and reviews thebusiness plan by department to maximize sales and profitability. Reviewscompetitive analysis relating to the vendor / store matrix.

Stays abreast ofindustry trends and provides feedback from evaluating competition. Review keyconclusions on style productivity and assortment breadth resulting fromperforming assortment analytics.

Oversee the set up of the initial assortmentplan framework and definition of seasonal assortment parameters. Evaluatessales unit performance reports for opportunities.

Partners in attending marketas feasible and necessary.

People Development - Manages organization andstaffing and participates in skills training and development. Participates inteam's activities, and helps to support and develop a team environment.

Participates in the Performance Review, PDP, and Q12 Impact Plans. Participatesin fostering job satisfaction and positive morale.

JOBREQUIREMENTS :

  • University or college degree or commensurate retail experience
  • MBA preferred
  • Minimum 5-10 years experience in a buying and / or planning capacity; Luxury Retail experience preferred
  • Strong business and financial analysis skills. (Keen negotiation skills, exposure to vendor / retailer relation in the past)
  • Strong retail math acumen, including elements of markup, margin planning, open to buy, inventory productivity measures (WOS, T / O, GMROI), master's understanding of budget frames
  • Strong communication and presentation skills; extensive exposure to Sr. Management
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Word and Excel; Buyers Workmate suite; i2 equivalent planning platform
  • Demonstrated managerial and leadership skills, especially managing large teams
