Responsible for ensuring a thoughtful approach to space creation by the University and that assignment, utilization and planning reflects University policies and priorities.
Responsible for making sure that appropriate facilities are available to support the academic and research enterprises of the University.
Provides leadership expert advice and support for all institutional space projects by ensuring that user space needs are well defined, working with users as required, and then by ensuring that the space plan and related space design best meets the requirements of users and the operating practices and standards of the University.
Degree(s) in Urban Planning, Architecture or Engineering or another related field. Project Manager or Facility Management accreditation preferred. Graduate degree an asset.
Minimum 7 years progressive experience and leadership in institutional space planning, urban planning, or planning in large institutional, industrial or commercial enterprises.
Demonstrated skills :
Excellent written and oral communication skills in order to communicate with and respond to various and diverse audiences.
Excellent project management skills and in-depth knowledge of professional project management process.
Excellent organizational and analytical skills. ability to prioritize projects and tasks to align with the University's objectives.
Demonstrated skills in the use of scheduling and budgeting principles and procedures.
Excellent demonstrated knowledge of building science, construction methods and materials.
Demonstrated knowledge of construction industry costs and trends.
Excellent knowledge of the regulations and standards that apply to the built environment including the Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, City Building Standards, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Electrical Codes, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), AODA, Environmental Legislation and Standards.
Ability to resolve conflict and bring parties to compromise.
Demonstrated ability to build rapport and to work with internal and external stakeholders in collaborative project development and delivery.
Knowledge and use of industry design tools such us AutoCAD, MS Project, MS Powerpoint, MS Word, MS Excel and Archibus.
Additional Notes :
The majority of work is executed in an office environment. Often meets with users at various locations at both the Keele and Glendon Campuses.
Is required to make site visits to construction / project sites to ensure the project is being executed as planned. On occasion, is required to travel within the GTA to attend committee meetings on behalf of the University.
