This position reports to the Innovation team in our Office of the SVP, Policy and Innovation sector.

The Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation is seeking senior innovation specialists with experience in design, problem analysis, research, behavioural science, systems theory or any other related disciplines.

This experience is essential to helping us design solutions that solve the housing affordability problems that are preventing us from reaching reach our big hairy audacious goal , that By 2030, everyone in Canada has a home that they can afford and that meets their needs.

We are looking to expand our team and have two (2) bilingual positions available.

These positions report to the Innovation team in the Policy and Innovation sector.

About the role

We’re constantly evolving to build an inclusive housing system through research, design, innovation and partnerships. As a member of the Innovation team, you will work in agile ways with others to understand the housing ecosystem and lead multi-disciplinary design teams in solving complex housing problems.

Specifically, in this role, you will identify, analyse, frame and prioritize complex housing problems to then explore ways to test, accelerate and scale solutions that solve them.

  • You will support the development and maintenance of the innovation portfolio, aligned with CMHC’s innovation ambition. You will contribute to building CMHC’s innovation capabilities in the areas of prototyping, idea incubation, behavioural science and measurement;
  • help shape CMHC’s innovation governance, and deliver on many new and exciting opportunities and activities.

    What you will need

  • Undergraduate degree in business, organizational behaviour, sciences, human resources, psychology or other relevant field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years experience in the field of innovation (e.g. design (human-centred, service, behavioural, product, policy, etc.
  • user experience, problem analysis and framing, researching, analysing, crafting insights, ideating, prototyping, accelerating, scaling, measuring etc.)

  • Ability to make a persuasive, clear presentation of ideas that will convince others and gain acceptance of proposals or plans.
  • Tact, diplomacy and judgment are required.

  • Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and facilitating problem identification, idea generation and solution-based sessions with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience applying various phases of an innovation process, including experience in prototyping and experimentation methods and measuring the impact of the results.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting research and in-depth analyses of complex problems, developing quantitative and / or quantitative data collection approaches and tools, identifying actionable insights, synthesizing findings, and developing solutions and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability in synthesizing findings and ’telling a story’’ by presenting information using a variety of communication methods and products tailored to meet the needs of the audience.

  • Direct housing sector experience and understanding of housing industry key players and delivery.
  • What you will be doing

    Overseeing and leading multi-disciplinary design teams in solving complex housing problems.

    Contributing to growing CMHC’s innovation capabilities in the areas of prototyping, idea incubation, behavioural science and measurement.

    Contributing to defining CMHC’s innovation governance, and deliver on opportunities and activities in the disruptive innovation space.

    Advising senior management on policy and program strategy and execution, and building and maintaining relationships with internal and external key influencers.

    More specifically, you will :

  • Explore, research and learn (through and with others) the problems affecting housing affordability and meeting the needs of people in Canada
  • Run design sprints and workshops to facilitate the design process
  • Design, lead and conduct continuous testing and market research activities
  • Collect on-going feedback, synthesize data collected and construct actionable insights that will drive iterative design decisions
  • Convey design solutions to key stakeholders or other business functions through renderings, models, low and high-fidelity prototypes, presentations, reports, etc.
  • Continuously organize and document work which can be referenced by others in the team
  • Mature CMHC’s capability in prototyping and experimentation
  • Increase CMHC’s position and credibility working in the innovation space
  • Lead, motivate and develop others through learning and action
