The government tabled Budget 2021, which focuses on key themes to help support Canadians in the years ahead, including finishing the fight against COVID-19, creating jobs and growth, and ensuring a resilient and inclusive recovery.

Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada's (ISED) will continue to play an important role in advancing initiatives in each of the budgetary themes.

Our work is diversified and touches on various topics, such as innovation, science, industry, tourism and small business.

You’ll get to work on a wide variety of initiatives that directly impact the Canadian economy as well as our daily lives as Canadians and as ISED employees.

You could be working on :

  • Developing policies on guiding government investment programs and economic development activities;
  • Participating in consultations and exploring various models to support government priorities;
  • Developing strategic advice with regard to federal efforts.

    Copyright, international relations or trade negotiations, domestic trade, Canada’s bankruptcy and insolvency system, business finance, foreign investment, competition policy, science policy, innovation and technology-related policy, telecommunications policy, small business policy, tourism policy, micro-economic or industrial policy, spectrum, digital and ICT policies and many more.

    ISED also has developmental program which progresses initially from EC-02 to EC-04 and completes at the EC-05.

    Intent of the process

    This process aims to create and maintain an inventory of Indigenous persons (First Nations, Métis, and / or Inuit) for casual, indeterminate or term appointments within Innovation Science and Economic Developpment.

    A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to fill similar positions with various locations and tenures.

    When you apply to this selection process, you are not applying for a specific job, but to an inventory for future vacancies.

    As positions become available, applicants who meet the qualifications may be contacted for further assessment. Based on the hiring needs, additional essential qualifications, asset qualifications, organizational needs, operational requirements and / or conditions of employment may be identified and applied during the assessment and / or selection of candidates.

    In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)


    Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in Economics, Sociology or Statistics (acceptable specialization is at least one full year course or two half-year courses in Economics, Sociology or Statistics).

    Part A

    Notes : Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.

    The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and / or experience.

    Graduation with a Master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in economics, sociology, statistics, business / commerce, political science, public policy, mathematics or a related field.


    Depending on the position to staff, the following operational requirements could be applicable : Willingness and ability to work overtime or / and Willingness and ability to travel.

    Conditions of employment

    Depending on the position to staff, conditiions of employment can vary between : Reliability Security Clearance or Secret Security Clearance.
