As Operator Technician with Trans Mountain, you'll have the opportunity to work with a progressive and fast-paced group of technician's experts.

This position is based in our Burnaby Terminal. Learn from your Leader, the Manager, Operations Burnaby and Westridge Terminal.

The successful candidate for the Operator Technician position will be responsible for the Inspection, local operation and routine maintenance of facility equipment and equipment systems following approved Company operating procedures and standards.

Field Operating Technicians also provide oversight of contractors and other personnel to ensure that maintenance and project activities occurring at facilities are performed in accordance with approved EHS standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Locally operate pumps, valves, pipeline pigging systems and other facility equipment in consultation with the Control Centre Operator (CCO).
  • Responsibilities specific to dock facilities includes operation of equipment related to transfer of liquid petroleum to and from marine vessels.
  • Responsibilities specific to Terminal facilities includes performing product quality and measurement analysis, tank gauging, and sample collection.
  • Recognize and effectively respond to abnormal operating conditions.
  • Conduct equipment and equipment system inspections and routine maintenance; prepare equipment for maintenance activities as required.
  • Analyze, interpret and utilize graphic and other information contained in SCADA displays, P&ID drawings and valve numbering diagrams.
  • Obtain and maintain job qualifications by successfully completing all assigned training following established protocols.
  • Provide oversight of contractors and other personnel to ensure that maintenance and project activities occurring at facilities are performed in accordance with approved EHS standards.
  • Provide periodic review and input related to Trans Mountain operational documentation including job plans, operating manuals and drawings.
  • Qualifications and Professional Experience

  • Successful completion of High School is required
  • Post-secondary education in oil / gas technology or other technical fields (equivalent experience / education will also be considered).
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of oil or gas experience in an operating or maintenance capacity.
  • Valid provincial driver's license is required.
  • Oil and Gas pipeline experience would be an asset.
  • Good mathematical and analytical ability.
  • Basic understanding of liquid hydraulics.
  • Minimum basic level proficiency in MS Office applications including Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as a part of a team as well as independently.
  • Able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail is critical.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle strict deadlines.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
