NM Group, A Trimble Company, is recruiting for an exciting contract opportunity for a multi-disciplinary geomatics survey technician responsible for ground based survey activities in support of aerial LiDAR capture operations including setting, operating and monitoring ground based GNSS and weather stations.

The work will be located in Central and Southern Alberta and is expected to begin following the spring snow melt in early / mid-

April. The position is a contract position of up to three months with possible extensions and additional opportunities for demonstrated proficiency in ground support operations.

NM Group offers competitive day rates and reimburses or pays all costs while in the field including airfare, car rental, lodging, food, fuel, field supplies and sundries.

The position will involve extensive travel throughout Southern and Central Alberta. The successful candidate will be able to work without direct supervision, have a can-

do attitude and be a technically proficient problem solver. Full training will be provided.

Key Geomatics Survey Technician responsibilities

  • Identify suitable locations to establish reference stations to control flight trajectory;
  • Construct and occupy reference stations during flight operations;
  • Set up, start and monitor GNSS equipment during flight operations;
  • Set up, start and monitor weather sensor equipment during flight operations;
  • Take detailed field notes including field sketches and pictures of reference station occupations;
  • On a daily basis, download GNSS and weather data collected in the field;
  • On a daily basis, issue completed data sets, report to the project group and update any tracking documents as required.
  • Desired Knowledge and Experience for the Geomatics Survey Technician

  • Understanding of field survey procedures and experience with GNSS survey equipment.
  • A high technical aptitude for working with GNSS surveying equipment, computers and computer software.
  • Preferably a degree or courses in a relevant field (e.g. Geomatics, Surveying, Remote Sensing, GIS, Geography or CAD) or equivalent industry experience.
  • Desire to travel and a willingness to work away for 3 weeks and occasional extended periods of up to 6-8 weeks.
  • Full clean Canadian driver’s licence (held for 2+ years).
