Position Summary

The Digitization Student Assistant, under the supervision of the Digital Services and Liaison Librarian will digitize materials from Archives and Special Collections, create descriptive metadata records for those materials, and upload digitized assets to the library's digital collection management software.

Areas of Responsibility and Typical Duties :

  • Researching various collections
  • Working with Library and Archives staff to select and digitize materials from Archives and Special Collections
  • Creating descriptive metadata and contextual information for digitized assets.
  • Uploading digitized assets to the library's collection management software
  • Performs other related duties as assigned Requirements - Applicants should be currently enrolled and registered for the Winter 2020 semester as a University of Regina student working towards a University of Regina degree in any discipline.
  • Previous experience working in an archives, library, or museum would be an asset.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills are required, as are research and project management skills.
  • Experience with scanning projects, digital photography, digital media production, digital asset management, web development, and primary research would be strong assets.
  • Attention to detail in practice and in results is highly desirable.
  • Fluency with computers is required; particularly a knowledge of Excel, image editing software (e.g. Photoshop), and PDF editing and OCR software (e.g.Adobe Pro, Nuance PDF).
  • Good physical health and strength to move heavy (approximately 35 lbs) loads.
