Basic Functions :
Position assists in the Colville Agency’s Wildland Fire Cache. The cache is part of the project and wildland fire support system and has responsibilities to provide logistical and material support to function projects and wildland fire needs.
The primary purpose of the position is to provide assistance to the Warehouse Manager during Wildfire and Prescribed Fire seasons. Minimum Qualifications
Education and Training :
Typically requires a High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years of progressively responsible experience performing a variety of warehouse related duties including but not limited to order storing, fulfillment, inventory control, analysis and mathematics.
Minimum of one season of experience as a wildland fire fighter. Must complete the fitness test at the moderate level.
Requires a pack test with minimum requirement to carry a 25 pound pack 2 miles in 30 minutes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Requires working knowledge of warehouse record keeping techniques including appropriate computer-aided programs for purchase orders and inventory management.
Requires knowledge of and skill at using warehouse equipment such as but not limited to forklift, pallet jack, and other material handling devices.
Requires knowledge in the use of various types of automotive equipment.
Requires knowledge in the use of tools and equipment specific to fire management operations.
Requires knowledge in the use of computers and computer programs such as word processing, data bases and spreadsheets.
Requires knowledge of forest fire suppression techniques.
Requires Skill in the use of manual and power tools and equipment used in fire management operations.
Requires sufficient math skills to compute sums and fractions.
Requires sufficient language skills to document warehouse activity and prepare routine reports.
Requires sufficient human relation skills to maintain positive work relationships with internal customers and vendors, and to work as part of a team.
Requires the ability to perform the functions of the position and schedule warehouse activity in a manner conducive to proficient performance.
Requires the ability to plan, prioritize, and perform work as necessary to meet schedules and timelines.
Requires the ability to operate a vehicle and labor-saving warehousing equipment.
Requires the ability to organize, document, and count inventory.
Requires the ability to maintain inventory levels and controls.
Requires the ability to write and maintain records according to warehousing standards.
Requires the ability to obtain a forklift certificate within a reasonable amount of time.
Requires the ability to perform moderate to heavy tasks out of doors under all types of conditions.
Requires the ability to operate pumper truck unit to fill water tanks at lookout locations.
Requires the ability to make mathematical computations with speed and accuracy and to keep routine written records.
Requires the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to apply guidelines to varied situations.
Incumbent must be able to work indoors in a warehouse environment and outdoors engaged in work of primarily an active nature.
Requires the ability to maintain cardiovascular fitness to engage in active physical labor.
Requires ambulatory ability to sit, walk to campus locations, and operate vehicles and equipment.
Requires the ability to lift, carry and move medium to heavy weight materials up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis; up to 75 pounds on an occasional basis.
Requires visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens, to drive a vehicle, and to observe work processes.
Requires the ability to use hearing for ordinary and telephonic conversation, to provide staff training sessions, and to hear sound prompts from equipment.
Requires sufficient hand-eye coordination, arm hand dexterity and visual acuity including depth perception to drive delivery vehicle and read numbers and words.
Requires the ability to work beyond the 40 hour work week, including extended work days, holidays and weekends.
Requires the ability to drive in adverse weather conditions.
