Job Description

As part of the Operations team, the New Product Introduction (NPI) Program Manager oversees all NPI work and resources to ensure all NPI activities are completed.

As the NPI Program Manager you will :

  • Be responsible for FLIR’s NPI work and for meeting all NPI deliverables
  • Participate in cross-functional development of company-wide NPI process
  • Develop capacity and resource plans for NPI work in partnership with the Director, Operations
  • Oversee development of assembly and test work Instructions for new products
  • Oversee transition of new products from NPI to regular production
  • Cost-benefit analysis for insource / outsource of assembly and test work
  • Develop NPI tools / templates such as standardized NPI request forms and material consumption
  • Lead weekly NPI sync meetings between Operations, Software and Hardware Engineering, Test Development, Supply Chain
  • Manage raw materials through NPI phase
  • Coach Production Operators on A3s, RCCAs, cost-benefit analysis, process development from the NPI perspective
  • Lead daily NPI team meetings
  • Prioritize daily resources to ensure all work is achieved, and work closely with Production Team Leads to ensure resources are properly allocated
  • Deploy visual management tools for NPI for Manufacturing Team (i.e. Control Board)
  • Develop & deploy KPIs specific to NPI; update, review and act on these
  • Lead various Manufacturing-related Hoshin activities as assigned through objective planning process
  • Participate in development and execution of FLIR’s Continuous Improvement culture
  • Spec out, purchase and deploy future production and test equipment required for NPI work
  • Provide back-up coverage for Director, Operations as required
  • Input into FLIR’s ECO, PCR and test processes
  • Participate in Operations Gemba walks
  • Participate in weekly ECO, NPI and other (as required) meetings
  • Review budget (plan vs actual) and approve purchasing tickets for NPI team
  • Own other short-term project management duties as required
  • Continue professional development through management courses (Front Line Leadership) and Leader Standard Work (LSW)
  • Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing environment
  • 5+ years of experience in NPI project management role
  • In-depth knowledge of Continuous Improvement / Lean Manufacturing concepts (5S, 8 Wastes, Kaizen, Standardized Work, RCCA, A3)
  • Able to solve problems from symptom to root cause using one of the structured methodologies such as A3, DMAIC, 8 Steps of Problem Solving, RCCA
  • Able to effectively coach direct and indirect project team members
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional collaborative and relationship skills, including the ability to discover the true constraints and underlying needs of a team
  • ITIL and / or PMP certifications are desirable
  • Experience working with MS Office, ERP / MRP and MES
