Summary : This key position will provide a mix of tactical and strategic level Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) leadership to Operations and the HSE Team.
The Senior Manager, Health, Safety and Environment, will lead a team of HSE Coordinators to effectively implement HSE-based programs to divisions within the Region.
This role will participate in the development of corporate HSE programs, ensure consistent application of HSE services / provisions across the region, and monitors programs to ensure ongoing compliance with the Miller Group Safety and Environmental Programs, Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and Environmental Protection Act (EPA), policies, codes and legislation.
This position supports operations by aligning to business goals and objectives.

Provide support and guidance to a team of health, safety, and environmental coordinators
Greater Toronto Area
Provide support in building a strong and integrated HSE team to support Miller Group Operations
Provide transparency and assurance of trends and concerns to local management and seek proactive intervention solutions
Direct interface, engagement and communication on HSE topics such as performance, issues, opportunities, etc
Active involvement with live projects through site inspections and employee engagement through to coaching & mentoring
Enforce compliance with legislation, policies, and best practices
Build a culture of personal accountability where safe behaviors are re-enforced, and at-risk behaviors are identified and challenged
Provide safety stats, training information, WSIB information for project managers, supervisors and customers, as requested
Assist in implementing Miller’s corporate HS Management System (COR)
Assist and lead the implementation of Miller’s corporate Environmental Management System (EMS), including Environmental Sustainability
Coordinate and facilitate in-house training such as Confined Space, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Orientation, WHMIS, etc.
Investigate incidents and near misses while ensuring proper follow up and implementation of corrective actions
Supervise and lead regional HSE staff
10+ years of progressive experience in HSE roles or operations-based experience with HSE focus in the construction industry, in an on-
site and management capacity.
Ability to travel to support operational needs, conduct site visits, etc.
Must be a team leader who leads by example.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Teambuilding both functional and with key stakeholders.
Strong analytical and problem solving abilities able to create response action plans.
Must have strong communication skills and ability to relate to all levels of the Miller organization.
Post-secondary education Diploma or Degree in a program relating to safety preferred, CRSP or NCSO designation a definite asset.
Working knowledge of a variety of provincial HSE regulations required.
Strong computer and software skills, including Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and email programs.
Technical knowledge of the industry.
