Rogers is seeking a Development Manager to manage, mentor, build and maintain development teams working on Digital applications and platforms.

Reporting to the Sr. Development Manager or Director at the Rogers Park Brampton Campus, this individual will manage development teams in collaboration with peers and project managers in the delivery of high quality digital solutions in a fast moving agile development practice.

  • Management of one or more development teams and their deliverables within an agile practice as well as waterfall that delivers projects that meet the needs of the business.
  • This role is not a people manager
  • Leadership to the development resources in partnership with Digital management team. Distinct from management, Leadership involves direction;
  • vision, strategy, inspiration, motivation, values and culture;
  • Implementing Digital transformation plans, policies and programs that accomplish corporate goals and objectives.
  • Contribute to planning, creating and implementing projects and / or teams that are aligned with the Digital organization's strategic plan.
  • Solid knowledge of business infrastructure, architecture, development / support, networks and operations; understanding customer needs, processes and functions.
  • Ensure personal, professional development for both technical and soft skills and that of the team; encourage a culture that supports the development of innovative and effective business solutions.
  • Gain a solid understanding of the businesses, well-developed people and project management skills.
  • Responsibilities

  • Leads the team in the technical design, development and implementation of cross-functional, multi-platform application systems;
  • coding, system testing, implementation and documentation of solutions.

  • Contributes to defining time tables and project plans, analyzes and estimates feasibility, cost, time, and compatibility with hardware and other programs.
  • Takes lead for establishing, implementing and monitoring 'best practices’ for technical development methodologies and tools, ensuring expected application performance levels are achieved.
  • Obtains the necessary clarity of the requirements, working with project managers, sponsors and other stakeholders to develop and plan technical strategies;
  • agree upon project priorities and deliver applications that support business requirement, including systems integration testing prior to code release to Quality Assurance.

  • Builds understanding of industry trends and contributes to the development of standards and practices for areas of domain expertise;
  • influences the development of plans and processes; signs-off code reviews.

  • Extends expertise across multiple technical domains; awareness of risks associated with application development and potential impacts, incorporating risk planning and mitigation.
  • A custodian of established architecture, ensuring documented standards and procedures are adhered to and the smooth interpretation applications.
  • Determines staffing requirements to meet department needs. Hires and retains talent.
  • Conducts appropriate staff performance management and review practices and follows Rogers HR standard policies and procedures in people management.
  • Experience & Education

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science / Software Engineering / IT or equivalent. Graduate degree, preferred.
  • 10 - 15 years relevant work experience.
  • Technical Skills

  • Excellent web application architecture, design and development skills in multiple web technologies
  • Deep Agile development knowledge.
  • Micro-service architecture
  • Cloud development or Native Cloud development is an asset
  • Java Technology Platform
  • BEA Weblogic / Oracle / ATG
  • SOA / Webservices
  • UI technologies : HTML / CSS / JS / Angula / Bootstrap
