You will meet ambitious people and people passionate about the world of entertainment!Reporting to the Production Manager and working in tandem / collaboration with the Artistic Director, the Head of Rigging and Automation will be a highly motivated individual who is inspired and keen to contribute to and improve the show quality & technical operations of the show.

  • Responsabilities : ·Manage and supervise all riggers and automation technicians; ·Uphold all Cirque du Soleil (CDS) health & safety and rescue protocols to the highest possible standard;
  • Maintain the integrity of artistic concepts and show quality.·During Set up and Tear down, coordinate and participate in all activities relating to rigging equipment, automation systems and equipment and supervise all personnel working on or around those systems;
  • Assist with the setup and tear-down of all other technical installations;·Assist the Production Manager with hiring new riggers, automation technicians, managing departmental budgets and producing capital expense projections with the collaboration of Show Support at the International Head Quarters (IHQ);
  • Conduct research and order and / or purchase new and / or replacement equipment in tandem with Show Support (IHQ) and the Production Manager;
  • Work with Show Support (IHQ) on any technical issues;·Provide training as required to achieve development goals and timelines;
  • Attend departmental meetings;·Carry out all other tasks requested by the Production Manager. Task related to Rigging : ·Manage all aspects of rigging related to the show;
  • Manage use and maintenance of rigging equipment employed by artists during performances, rehearsals and training periods;
  • Supervise all aspects of artistic and structural rigging during load-in, performances and load-out;·Act as a backup rigging equipment operator during performances and rehearsals;
  • Ensure the safety and security of rigging equipment at all times;·Provide advice, recommendations and information on any safety issue related to working high above the ground and climbing equipment;
  • Develop, implement and ensure adherence to a rigging equipment safety inspection program;·Ensure that rigging and technical staff (Cirque and temporary employees) adhere to standards and regulations pertaining to the safety of rigging equipment and comply with safe working methods;
  • Supervise and train riggers;·Inspect and maintain all rigging equipment and keep records of inspections and modifications;
  • Update the rigging archives, inventory, technical documentation and customs documentation; Tasks related to Automation : ·Manage all automation systems and equipment during training and performance;
  • Maintain and update show records, procedures, and maintenance logs.·Operate automation systems during performances and rehearsals;
  • Ensure the safety and security of automation equipment through all phases of tour operations, including load-in, load-out, trainings and performances;
  • Perform and document inspections, maintenance, and system updates both as regularly scheduled and exceptionally required, as mandated;
  • Implement and maintain all automation documentation including; archives, inventory, technical documentation, procedures, and customs documentation;
  • Act as a liaison between the tour and any external automation suppliers regarding system changes, improvements, third party inspections and malfunctions;
  • Train and supervise backup operators for shift rotations and replacement duty (including Cirque staff & temporary employees);
  • Implement integration and development plans for all automation staff and operators, ensuring they adhere to standards and regulations pertaining to automation equipment safety, and comply with safe working methods;
  • Requirements : ·College diploma (or equivalent) in live entertainment, theatre production or industrial automation (or equivalent work experience);
  • 6 to 8 years' relevant experience as a rigger, including experience with aerial / human rigging;·Minimum five years' experience in automation systems;
  • Technical knowledge of rigging equipment;·Personnel management experience is essential;·Ability to handle contingencies and work well under pressure;
  • Technical knowledge of automation systems, including hardware (PLC, AC motor control, slave systems, control loops, electrical systems) and software (control platforms, multi-axis motion programming, video monitoring);
  • Knowledge of basic structural loads and forces;·General knowledge of mechanical and electronic systems;·Good general understanding of all technical aspects of a show;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications for Windows; advanced knowledge of Windows operating system is an asset;·Flexible, autonomous and team-spirited;
  • Good communication skills;·Ability to handle contingencies and work well under pressure;·Ability to work high above the ground (climbing abilities essential);
  • Knowledge of Microsoft software for Windows and AutoCAD navigation;·Fluency in spoken and written English is essential; any additional language (spoken and / or written) is an asset;
