What you will be doing

This position reports to the Academic Chair and may receive daily functional guidance from the faculty member in the assigned program(s).

The Program Assistant provides assistance to the faculty by overseeing safe work practices, overseeing program inventory control procedures and maintaining practices and procedures within the learning environment.

This program assistant will assist faculty with learning demonstrations, interact with students in the learning environment to help reinforce learning, and in collaboration with faculty, assist with the facilitation of safety meetings with students.

The Program Assistant will also work with little or periodic supervision on a variety of assignments often requiring judgment and decision.

Qualifications and Occupational Experience :

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a Fishing Master IV or Bridge Watch Rating Certificate from Transport Canada.
  • You have a minimum of three years of recent and related occupational experience working in the fishing or marine Industry.
  • In addition, you have worked on ships or fishing boats, completed Marine Emergency Duties training.
  • Experience in standard housekeeping and safety protocols.
  • You possess basic internet skills to search for information coupled with internet information skills to evaluate the information you find.
  • Above all, you are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology;
  • and you are committed to using technology in support of an exceptional student experience

  • You have demonstrated experience liaising with business and industry in your field
  • You have knowledge and experience in applying WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety and occupation-specific safety practices
