Brief description of the project :

Thompson Rivers University, Open Learning (TRU-OL) is looking for a qualified content expert / curriculum consultant to review ARET 4111 / Green Building Rating Systems :

Green building rating systems attempt to measure how sustainable a building is using a variety of different requirements and metrics.

In this course, students will survey a number of ratings systems currently used by building professionals as a way to learn about the different strategies and technologies that are currently employed to make buildings more sustainable.

The history of the various systems will be studied so that the students can see the evolution of the green building movement.

Issues such as climate, building size, energy modelling, third party certification, and life cycle analysis will be discussed, so that current green building practice can be put into context.

The various rating systems will be compared and contrasted to see which are most applicable to a given project.

Course Development Process :

The content expert / curriculum consultant will work under the guidance of an instructional designer, and in collaboration with the course development team, to provide the following :

1. Input into the planning phase, including the review of a detailed blueprint or course framework that includes relevant learning outcomes and mapping out course activities, assessments and updated resources.

2. Review of content, learning activities and authentic assessments to ensure that they are relevant and appropriate for a standard web course.

TRU-OL uses a collaborative approach to course development that involves interactive planning meetings and review sessions as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Criteria for assignment of work :

The successful candidate will be selected on the basis of the following criteria :

  • Professional Engineer, Registered Architect, or a Building Technologist with at least five years experience with LEED AP or LEED Green Associate certification.
  • Direct experience with green building ratings systems, specifically LEED, is required.
  • Demonstration of current and ongoing engagement in the course subject matter through research and / or the scholarship of teaching, including the dissemination of outcomes in appropriate academic venues.
  • Proven course development skills in a face-to-face or distance environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to write in a clear and consistent style with grammatical accuracy.
  • The ability to meet deadlines.
  • The ability to work in a collaborative and consultative manner.
  • Experience or education in online course development or online facilitation is an asset.
