Reporting to the Regional Manager, North West, the Utility Operations Supervisor is accountable for the day-to-day business operations and leads a team of Powerline Technicians, Apprentices, Equipment Operators, Field Service Reps, and Electricians through optimal deployment of resources within and across service points to ensure that local business operations meet customer service delivery and operational efficiency targets while ensuring that local practices are aligned with departmental and corporate policies, standards, processes and procedures.

The incumbent is responsible to support the planning, scheduling, supervision, and assignment of internal employee and contractor resources engaged in installation, repair and maintenance of the power systems while ensuring work is being performed to ATCO’s expectations.

The Utility Operations Supervisor is an integral member of the overhead or underground activities through the successful execution of the project.

Strong leadership skills, technical expertise, the ability to efficiently manage the day-to-day operations of the project while providing mentorship and guidance to the Crew make the incumbent a versatile individual.

Responsibilities include providing local customer and community relations representation and acting as primary company representative in communities where a Regional Manager is not present, managing local facilities and equipment, developing area-specific business cases, assisting with budget and business plan development, and managing local expenditures.

As a Utility Operations Supervisor you are expected to be engaged in our safety program, executing work in a safe manner, in adherence with ATCO policies and all applicable code regulations and the Act.

What You Get to Do :

  • Provide safety leadership ensuring safe, efficient, and timely completion of all required tasks in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations, the Electrical Utility Safety Rules, and ATCO’s Policies & Procedures as required.
  • Lead the development, implementation and maintenance of processes, standards and procedures including training delivery and support.
  • Participate in day-to-day work activities, including administrative and communication functions.
  • In conjunction with other supervisors, ensure completion of all work, progress, vehicle, equipment, and employee reports and / or records as required.
  • Proactively anticipate potential problems, identify core issues and draw accurate conclusions to resolve.
  • Coordinate and implement departmental strategies, employee work plans, schedules, training plans, coaching, on-going feedback, and monitor performance throughout the year.
  • Adhere to and enforce applicable safety and environmental practices, standards, regulations, and corporate commitments.
  • Ensure appropriate reporting of all incidents, formal inspection, monitoring and reporting of crew activities to the Manager.
  • Reviews and ensures accurate time end expense records are submitted.
  • Ensure positive labour relations through proper administration of the Collective Agreement and company policies.
  • What We Are Looking For :

  • Journeyman Powerline Technician, or related Technology Diploma, or related Post-secondary degree is required.
  • 3-5 years leadership experience as a Powerline Technician Supervisor preferred.
  • Class 5 or Valid Driver’s License with a clean abstract and able to maintain same.
  • What You Will Need To Be Successful :

  • Willingness and ability to lead by example to maintain and strengthen trust and confidence in your team.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations, Electrical Utility Safety Rules, company policies, Utility Work Protection Code, WHMIS, CPR, First Aid, and all other applicable legislation.
  • Working knowledge of creating and maintaining a local emergency response plan aligned with district, region, corporate and community emergency plans and / or business continuity plans.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities with demonstrated excellent communication and inter-personal skills to interact with all employee levels and the general public.
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of programs.
  • Willingness to embrace new technology that contributes to productivity and efficiency.
  • Willingness and ability to work under emergency and on-call situations.
  • Proven excellent safety and attendance record.
