The Pipeline Inspector - General will monitor the construction activities to ensure that the technical requirements of the project are achieved.
The Pipeline Inspector is responsible for the Inspection, Measurement and Monitoring (IMM) of pipeline construction activities to assure conformance with the applicable drawings, specifications, conditions, commitments, work plans and procedures.
The Pipeline Inspector is responsible for monitoring underground pipeline and utility sweeps and locates, access construction and upgrades, clearing, stripping, ditching, lowering-in, backfilling and final clean-up activities.
You will be responsible to provide quality assurance in accordance with the Inspection and Test Plan and the Quality Management Plan in the performance of the work.
This position will provide daily reports of construction activities, progress and issues. The position requires awareness, understanding and enforcement of the Safety, Security, and Environmental requirements.
We are looking to fill this position for opportunities in Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, and Ontario.
Your Key Responsibilities
Review construction drawings, specifications, conditions, commitments, work plans and procedures.
Participate in Daily Safety Tailgate meetings including daily job hazard assessments.
Complete daily report on construction activities, progress, and issues.
Verification of daily daily LEMS for respective crews.
Verification of environmental and landowner requirements prior to initiating access activities.
Verify the installation and maintenance of temporary fencing and cattle gates.
Verification that foreign utilities are suitably marked and located and access ramps are installed prior to mobilizing heavy equipment into work site and overhead powerlines are identified and flagged.
Monitor the operations for adherence to project specifications and work plans for clearing and stripping (i.e., cutting of brush and trees and removal and segregation of top soil).
Monitoring excavation activities and verifying that excavation activities are in compliance with ground disturbance requirements.
Verifying adequate ditch depth and acceptable ditch bottom condition prior to lowering in.
Monitor lowering in activities to ensure that pipe is adequately supported and that lowering in does not result in damage to the pipe.
Monitor holiday testing of coating prior to lowering in.
Verify the application of padding and other mechanical protection prior to backfilling.
Verify the installation of buoyancy control devices such as concrete coating, screw anchors and set-on bag weights.
Monitor backfill activities to verify that backfill material is suitable for use and that the backfill process does not damage the pipe or coating.
Verify the as-built survey and collection of data for the pipeline prior to backfill. Support the preparation of as-built drawings and turnover documentation.
Provide input to post construction evaluation and lessons learned documents.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
API 1169 Pipeline Construction Inspector Certification required for all pipeline positions, this is not a requirement when working on pumping stations or terminals.
Excellent organizational, strategic, planning and implementing skills.
Strong presentation, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly convey information to a variety of audiences.
Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.
Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Advanced skills in use of Microsoft (MS) Office Suite.
Education and Experience
10 years industrial and / or pipeline construction experience with a minimum of 5 years in a supervision or inspection role.
Position will work in office and field setting. Visits construction sites and works in outside weather conditions.
