  • POSITION DESCRIPTION

    WSP is currently seeking a Project Engineer Hydropower Heavy Mechanical to join our growing Power department. Working out of our office in Vancouver, while collaborating closely with our other offices across Canada, the Project Engineer Hydropower Heavy Mechanical will report to the local Power Team Lead and also to the Director of Power, Western Canada (Calgary office), with strong functional links with peers in other regions.

    We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our national hydropower heavy mechanical team of 9 engineers and 5 technicians / modelers, who are working on some of the most important and complex projects in the field being implemented across North America.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in business development, market presence and client care.
  • Develop and manage project quality, budgets, schedules and resource levels.
  • In support of multidisciplinary Project Managers and specifically pertaining to the heavy mechanical components of multidisciplinary projects : Provide inputs to assist in planning and coordinating the projectPerform designs and prepare reports
  • For projects strictly, heavy mechanical hydro projects : Lead the initiation, planning, execution, control and closing of service proposals and projects, with the support of the Project Management Office;
  • Manage stakeholders, especially clients;Perform designs and prepare reports

  • Provide due diligence support for Advisory Services mandates.
  • Some travel to and from client sites and / or temporary secondment to client site may be required.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in a Canadian Province or Territory
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in heavy mechanical design, with primary focus on hydropower and dams
  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of industry standards and codes / regulations for heavy mechanical designs
  • Experience in detail design as part of a hydropower heavy mechanical component supplier shop is an asset
  • Experience in the design, specification, of any or all of the following is an asset HoistsDrumsGatesLarge Valves, PumpsPenstocks and pressure vesselsTrash racksStop LogsEmbedded partsTraveling bridge cranes
  • Pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach to problem solving
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Autonomy, initiative and team spirit will be emphasized
  • Functional knowledge of French is an asset
  • Strong leadership and efficiency when working as part of a multidisciplinary team
