OPENTEXT - THE INFORMATION COMPANY The opportunity :
Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), this role provides strategic oversight, guidance and management of the overall global privacy regulations that are emerging from government legislation and regulations (including GDPR).
The VP, Data Privacy & Compliance ensures OpenText is aware of current and upcoming privacy regulations globally and that the company is operating in compliance with these regulations.
To be successful in this role, you need to have in-depth knowledge of all aspects of data privacy, in-depth knowledge of local and global data protection laws and be familiar with the technology industry and the nature of its data processing activities and privacy legislation.
You are great at :
Develop and coordinate a risk management and compliance framework for privacy
Develop and manage enterprise-wide procedures to ensure the development of new products and services is consistent with company privacy policies and legal obligations
Responsible for overseeing the OpenText data protection strategy, implementation and maintenance to ensure compliance with all global data privacy requirements
Monitor the company’s compliance with global data protection laws and policies and review of privacy impact assessments, and other relevant data protection activities
Track and report on the company’s compliance with global data protection laws to executive level and senior management
Own accountability and responsibility surrounding the process for investigating and acting on privacy complaints and incident handling.
This role will be involved with the working groups and fully integrated in the incidents and actions towards resolution.
Key point of contact for internal and external inquiries (data subjects, customers, regulators) about OT’s data protection and privacy policies and practices globally
Create the strategic direction for data protection and privacy internally, leading internal training and building awareness across the company globally
Initiates, facilitates and promotes activities to foster information privacy awareness within the organization globally and related entities
Provide advice and guidance to the organization and its employees on the global data privacy requirements of current and new regulations
Collaborate and partner with the VP, Information Security to ensure alignment between security and privacy compliance programs including policies, practices, investigations, and act as a liaison to the information systems department
Reviews business data protection vulnerabilities and sets the strategic direction and action plans to mitigate
Involvement, awareness and supporting all pre-sales data privacy requests and / or questions
Provide advice on the data protection impact assessment and monitor its performance
Monitoring performance and providing advice on the impact of data protection efforts
Responsibility for carrying out data privacy audits, address potential issues proactively and oversee the implementation of compliance tools
Foster, interact and maintain relationships with global data privacy and supervisory authorities
Perform related duties as assigned
What it takes :
Acquires certification / qualification in Data Protection or other equivalent comprehensive (formal) education / training
15+ years of demonstrable work experience and a proven track record of dealing with data protection and privacy issues globally
Experience engaging with external parties on data protection issues (regulators, customers, industry associations, etc.)
Expert knowledge of data protection law and practices that aligns with OT’s data processing operations and level of data protection required for the personal data processed by data controllers and data processors
Experience of data processing operations and privacy in the technology sector is preferable
A minimum of 5 years’ experience leading global teams in privacy and / or compliance functions
Familiarity with computer security systems and IT security
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
Strategic thinker with excellent legal and business judgment
Strong understanding and experience with international privacy laws
Experience working collaboratively and effectively with cross-functional teams
