We are looking for one, full time, forty (40) hours a week, Child and Youth Care Worker to join our dynamic and talented team! This position has a weekly rotation of Sunday - Thursday.

You will be joining an established Agency that is guided by faith to care for and bring hope to people in need with humility, compassion and respect.

Program Overview :

The St. Nicholas House Program is looking for energetic individuals to work with clients with complex and special needs within an FSCD Program.

Experience working with children and teenagers with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Looking for individuals with creative problem solving skills, time management skills, and is a team player in a highly structured environment.

Qualified individuals must have experience collaborating with families and outside supports to develop goals and treatment plans for the clients.

The qualified individual will be confident and skilled in CPI training when dealing with potentially aggressive clients.

About the Role :

As a Child and Youth Care Worker, you will be responsible for assessing the needs of the individual, providing counselling and teaching of basic life, community, living, and harm reduction skills that allow the client to minimize the participation in high-risk activities, and develop independent living abilities.

The Child and Youth Care Worker will maintain a safe, warm and positive environment where individuals feel welcomed and loved.

  • Managing a caseload of 1-2 clients
  • Developing and overseeing service plans for individuals dealing with substance, mental, and / or physical abuse. Support clients to access resources relevant to addiction and mental health
  • Collaborating with clients and their support network to set and maintain goals relevant to enhancing life skills, decreasing severity of issues to successfully transition to independent living.
  • Assisting clients in overcoming barriers, and supporting them to develop positive and healthy relationships with family, peers, employers and other personal support
  • Supporting clients through life skills teaching and in-the-moment learning, with a hands-on approach
  • Teaching clients to develop self-advocacy skills. Assisting clients in developing a realistic financial budget. Assisting with developing home maintenance and organization including cleaning routines, meal preparation, etc.
  • Ensuring clients basic needs are met (food, clothing, shelter, healthcare, safety, etc.) and assisting with apartment searching
  • Facilitating monthly life skill sessions or arranging sessions through guest speakers.
  • Submitting required program documentation with established time frames
  • Other duties as required
  • Education and Qualifications :

  • A Diploma / Degree in Human Services (or equivalent)
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience working with children and / or youth who are pregnant and plan to parent their children or already have children and require supports to parent.
  • Experience with children and family programming, youth in care, residential care, and case management is a requirement of this position.
  • Certification or training in Aboriginal Awareness, Abuse Awareness, Standard First Aid, Medication Administration, and Violence / Crisis Intervention is a definite asset.
  • The ideal candidate will have an organized and compassionate approach to the work, strong teamwork skills, and a commitment to developing positive supporting relationships.

    Other qualifications include :

  • Must be available to work weekends
  • Proven ability to provide effective communication, collaboration, crisis intervention, and conflict management with clients
  • Demonstrated assessment, problem solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of harm reduction principles and practices; circle of courage philosophy, strength based and resiliency focused assessments
  • Knowledge of community resources is an asset
  • Intermediate competency with Microsoft Office and other Agency computer applications
  • Demonstrated ability to act with professionalism, confidentiality, and diplomacy
  • Proven case documentation and effective information reporting practices
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Police Information Check including vulnerable sector search, Intervention Record Check and / or summary of driving record with no more than six (6) demerit points are conditions of employment and the financial responsibility of the candidate

    Compensation :

    The salary for this position is $22.63 to $25.46 per hour based on qualifications and experience. We offer flexibility and supportive working environment.
