About the business :

The Private Fixed Income Accounting Team is responsible for the financial management of the Canadian Private Fixed Income portfolio, supporting the front office in three geographic locations.

This includes reconciliations, Corporate and regulatory reporting, financial analysis and trending, financial controls, ad hoc reporting, as well communication of investment results to both internal and external audiences.

About the role :

Reporting to the Manager, the role of the Intermediate Private Fixed Income Analyst is to directly support, the production, analysis and reporting of financial results for the company.

The role will have regular contact with both those external to and across the company. The successful candidate will be able to independently manage and prioritize their tasks, while meeting competing deadlines.

The candidate well as develop practical solutions to issues identified through embracing the Brighter Way.

What will you do ?

  • Support the daily, monthly and quarterly accounting function to meet operational deadlines.
  • Maintain and prepare account reconciliations and analyze results to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting for multiple legal entity businesses.
  • Suggest and implement process improvements - accounting, reporting and internal controls.
  • Support ad hoc requests and projects as assigned.
  • Responsible for ICFR Key Control maintenance, enhancement and design.
  • Support Internal Audit requests.
  • Assist in the preparation of senior management reporting presentations and packages with supporting analytical commentary.
  • Assist in the support of SLIM Business initiatives such as PFI Daily Pricing
  • Responsible for the Limited Partnership reporting, included, but not limited to :
  • Daily updating of cash movement, Updating Market Values from the LP, Top Ten LP listing, Quarterly Front Office reporting, Quarterly Roll forward for multiple entities and Quarterly Levelling.
  • A number of additional report requirements for different area of the business.
  • What you need to succeed :

  • University Undergraduate Degree in Finance / business with 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Completion of professional accounting / finance designation, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of IFRS investment accounting, specifically IFRS Nos. 9 and 17.
  • Proficiency with Excel.
  • Investment accounting experience.
  • Experience in using Oracle General Ledger and Hyperion Essbase application tools or similar systems experience.
  • Knowledge of private debt / equity and limited partnership instruments.
  • Familiarity with source systems particularly.
  • Preferred skills :

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Detail oriented, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while continuing to meet operational deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Critical Skill :

    Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, managing large data sets with the ability to manipulate the data to support reporting / analysis.

    Excel skills should include familiarity with writing formulas, pivot tables, V-lookups and PowerPivot.

  • The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.

    In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
