    Job description

    DUTIES

    Brief description of the project:

    Thompson Rivers University, Open Learning (TRU-OL) is looking for a qualified content expert/curriculum developer to develop JOUR 2061: Introduction to Multimedia.

    In this course, students connect journalistic storytelling with the multi-media and social media tools used by professionals to reach a wide range of audiences.

    Coursework includes social media; storytelling with audio and video; and the use and critical evaluation of blogs as sources and sites for news

    Course Development Process:

    The content expert/curriculum developer will work under the guidance of an instructional designer, and in collaboration with the course development team, to provide the following:

  • Input into the planning phase, including the development of a detailed blueprint or course framework that includes relevant learning outcomes and mapping out course activities, assessments and updated resources.
  • 2. Development of content, learning activities and authentic assessments to ensure that they are relevant and appropriate for a standard web course.

    TRU-OL uses a collaborative approach to course development that involves interactive planning meetings and review sessions as needed.

    The content expert/curriculum developer is expected to make effective use of any prescribed resources identified (ideally electronic resources, including TRU’s e-Library collection and article databases), and other materials and media as appropriate.

    TRU respects intellectual property laws and expects curriculum developers to accurately cite sources and identify material that may require copyright clearance.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Criteria for assignment of work:

    The successful candidate will be selected on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Terminal degree in the area of communication, journalism, or closely related discipline preferred. Professional communication and/or journalism industry experience preferred.
  • Demonstration of current and ongoing engagement in the course subject matter through research and/or the scholarship of teaching, including the dissemination of outcomes in appropriate academic venues.
  • Proven course development skills in a face-to-face or distant environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to write in a clear and consistent style with grammatical accuracy.
  • The ability to meet deadlines.
  • The ability to work in a collaborative and consultative manner.
  • Experience or education in online course development or online facilitation is an asset
  • Pay Band
