The Krembil Centre for Neuroinformatics is hiring world-leading specialists to transform our understanding of mental health by organizing, integrating, analyzing, visualizing and modelling data across all levels of the brain from genes to circuits to behaviour.

This multimodal data is gathered across the clinical environment including genetic, epigenetic, MRI, DTI, fMRI, hd-EEG, actigraphy and electronic medical record data.

Teams will employ state-of-the-art techniques including topological data analysis, machine learning and multiscale computational modeling to accelerate identification and treatment of mental health disorders.

Research is performed in an open, team science environment, with an emphasis on reproducible data-driven research and a patient-

centric approach. A focus on global collaboration is key to transforming our understanding of mental health and its treatment.

The centre will operate as an incubator for medical technologies to identify, manage and treat mental illness, while shaping policy at national and global levels.

Position Summary The Research Data Coordinator will work in collaboration with the Knowledge Engineering team to ensure the management of data assets, data lineage and data access, including the consistent application of data models and provenance tracking, data quality and data accuracy across all group delivery initiatives.

You have expertise co-ordinating end-to-end data research flows, applying data structures and provenance to ensure long-

term data reusability for analysis. You should have an active interest in mental health and have worked with health care data including exposure to genomics, epigenetics, structural and functional brain imaging, EEG, medical records, behavioral data from mobile apps and wearables.

This position will be located at 250 College Street, Toronto.

Key Accountabilities

  • Working with the knowledge engineering team, your responsibilities include the management, integrity and maintenance of research data and alignment with the data warehouse and semantic ontologies, by;
  • Managing data assets, data lineage and data access, supporting sound data analysis.
  • Ensuring consistent application of data models and provenance tracking, including data quality and data accuracy across all group delivery initiatives.
  • Co-ordinating end-to-end data flows and identifying data dependencies in support of delivery, release, and change management and ensuring long-term data reusability.
  • Accountability for the performance, quality, and alignment to requirements for all data query design and development.
  • Supporting test data management and masking strategies and the creation of a reusable test data repository.
  • Ensuring data anonymization strategies are applied, where appropriate, within the data warehouse. Working with the Knowledge Engineering lead to apply and refine data models.
  • Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Neuroscience, Information Science, or related scientific field.
  • 5+ years of experience providing data architecture or engineering function.
  • 5+ years of hands-on data experience, with demonstrated increase of responsibilities over time.
  • 3-5 years of experience working in an active research environment, ideally, including a combination of direct research experience and experience in data management, technology setting.
  • Experience working with medical imaging, molecular and clinical datasets.
  • Strong knowledge of data management across the research lifecycle, including creation, processing, analysis, preservation, access, and reuse of research data.
  • Strong knowledge of data engineering systems, data models, and data structures.
  • Expertise working with versioning control systems, package management software and software development life cycles.
  • Experience creating and maintaining metadata and applying best practices to managed content.
  • Solid understanding of key DBMS platforms like SQL Server, Oracle and DB2, including technical expertise in data architecture principles and design aspects of various DBMS and reporting concepts.
  • Excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail and determined attitude towards ensuring accuracy and integrity.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills; balancing strategic alignment with technology roadmap and emerging industry trends with practical delivery.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with research faculty, students, and staff in a team environment.
  • Desired

  • Exposure to mental health and addictions research.
  • Experience co-ordinating research studies, including multi-site investigations.
  • Experience processing and reviewing large amounts of data.
  • Application of unit testing and systems automation.
  • Understanding and practice of matching / merging datasets.
  • Bilingualism (French / English) and / or proficiency in a second language would be an asset
  • Please note : This full-time, contract position lasting one (1) year is part of the OPSEU Bargaining Union.

    Salary range : $36.27 to $48.92 per hour
