Job Description The Day & Ross Transportation Group is currently seeking a full-time Dock Supervisor for our Freight division in Lachine, QC.

SHIFT SCHEDULE : The majority of the scheduled shift will be between the hours of 5 : 00pm and 1 : 00am. You must be available to work afternoons, evenings and possible weekends.

As a Dock Supervisor, you are accountable for ensuring that the dock employees are working in a safe and efficient manner.

You are responsible to ensure smooth operations, efficiencies, people management, freight flow, change implementation, and safety, aligned to operational expectations and guidelines.

This position is all about the effective management of freight flow through the management of people and safety, continuous improvement, problem solving and effective communication.

To be successful in this role, you will effectively complete the following (not an exhaustive list of responsibilities) :

  • Provide guidance by exhibiting a positive attitude, developing collaborative working relationships, and providing clear direction to employees.
  • Communicate clear expectations and hold team accountable to those expectations, maintain good working relationships with drivers, manage time effectively, and operate in an independent and capable manner
  • Manage dock operations with limited supervision.
  • Responsible for dock safety for self and employees, and corrects any safety issues within their control, escalates concerns to the Operations Manager where required.
  • Work with the team to improve current processes and create efficiencies.
  • To be qualified for this role, please ensure your resume clearly displays some or all of the following :

  • Bilingual French / English with good written and verbal communication skills
  • Warehouse and / or cross dock experience
  • Lead hand or supervisor experience ( minimum 1-2 years )
  • Attention to detail
  • Well organized
  • Computer skills are required
  • Education secondary school, business management / administration skills
  • Flexible work schedule
  • In-depth knowledge of safety practices
  • Operational Certifications (Forklift, TDG, WHMIS)
  • The working environment can include physical labour (bending crouching, etc.), outside in varying weather conditions, loud machinery, operating a Driving Powered Industrial Vehicle (PIV) in congested areas.
