Position Summary :
The Occupational Health Nurse offers Occupational Health Services to all employees, including education, promotion of positive health models, treatment of illness and injury, and follow-
Provide primary care for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses, including effective nursing assessment skills, preparation of care plan, treatment, referral and preparation of Return to Work Plan, as indicated
Able to work independently in industry with support from our team of nurses and physicians
Participate in workers’ health maintenance programs through various activities, e.g., pre-placement and periodic assessments, immunizations, coordination of the hearing conservation program, and coordination of examinations for compliance with the need for medical surveillance, mobile equipment examinations, and designated substance examinations
Maintain an accurate, timely and premium record keeping system
Identify health needs for workers, develop objectives, and implement programs in health promotion, maintenance and rehabilitation
Institute Wellness Programs appropriate to the needs of the employee workforce
Develop and maintain a liaison with health and services agencies in the community
Cooperate with and act as a resource to the appropriate personnel in developing and maintaining a safe work environment
Evaluate the nursing service provided for appropriateness and effectiveness
Education & Experience :
Registered Nurse (Mandatory Requirement) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
3-5 recent years’ experience in Occupational Health Nursing
Experience with spirometry, audiometry, vision screening, and respirator fit testing an asset
Diploma (DOHN) and / or Certification in Occupational Health Nursing (COHN-C) an asset
Current Certifications in CPR and First Aid
Skills & Qualifications :
Demonstrate knowledge of the Ontario Health and Safety Act, WSIB legislation, and Human Rights Legislation
Participate in professional nursing organizations and assume responsibility for professional growth and development
Proficient in computer programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Electronic Medical Records
Ability to work in a cooperative / collaborative manner to achieve a desired result
Demonstrated problem solving abilities
Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all areas of responsibility
Excellent interpersonal, diplomacy, and communication skills
