time basis, preferably based in Fort McMurray, Alberta. An overview of your role will include : Collect data to answer diverse ecological questions by developing study designs and implementing field programs.
Prepare technical memorandums, high quality scientific and technical reports, including Site Specific Liability Assessments, Pre-
Disturbance Assessments, weed management plans, closure and reclamation plans, and Wetland Assessment and Impact Reports / Forms (under direction).
Work with a large team of other experts to provide practical solutions to conservation problems faced by industry and governments.
To excel at this role, you will have the following attributes, skills, and background : At minimum, a bachelor's degree in biology / ecology or a related field, or a technical diploma with relevant experience A minimum of three years of practical experience Plant identification in the boreal, parkland and grassland regions of Western Canada, including experience with provincially tracked or federally listed species and associated surveys.
Familiarity with Phase I and II ESAs, Detailed Site Assessment and Reclamation Certificate Applications, and land reclamation practices and certification process in Alberta.
Ability to lead a technical field program Familiarity or experience with designated weed species and design of management plans Familiarity with wetland classification (Alberta Wetland Classification System, Steward and Kantrud method) and ecological site classification.
General introductory level of knowledge and experience with Alberta's Wetland Policy and associated implementation guide, directives and tools (i.e.
ABWRET-A). Introductory level of knowledge in the identification of wildlife (e.g., amphibians, breeding birds, and mammal, nests) and wildlife sign.
Demonstrated ability to compile and analyze ecological data Familiar with construction techniques and industry best management practices Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently but also thrive in an atmosphere that requires cooperation and teamwork to provide quality, solution-
oriented consulting services A valid driver's licence; ability to drive trucks, tow trailers and operate ATVs is an asset Willingness to travel and work outdoors in remote locations for extended periods of time Eligibility for registration with the Alberta Institute of Agrology or Alberta Society of Professional Biologists considered an asset.
