What's the job?

BCAA's Burnaby Home Office has an opening for a Manager, Home Insurance Product Development. The Manager, Home Insurance Product Development, is part of the team dedicated to innovating on BCAA's product offering, pricing design and it's product delivery in both new and existing channels in support of its corporate revenue, Member experience and risk objectives.

This role is responsible for developing and executing BCAA's Home Insurance product and pricing strategy to achieve a best-

in-class product offering and customer experience. The core metrics of success are gross sales, close rates, loss ratio and net promoter score.

The Manager is expected to :

  • Provide thought leadership that will initiate competitive and customer research, identify actionable insights and take the portfolio to a new level of market dominance
  • Lead and manage cross-functional collaboration with internal stakeholders in developing, implementing and maintaining product and pricing strategies and tactics;
  • working very closely with our internal Underwriting and Underwriting Analytics teams

  • Develop innovation in product delivery throughout the customer value chain; leveraging digital solutions to drive revenue, efficiencies and a superior customer experience
  • Intimate with product metrics and performance and support business planning and financial analysis
  • Provide strong leadership through the development and contribution of his / her team members and more broadly across the rest of the organization
  • Ensure strong relationships across the organization.
  • Product Strategy :

  • Monitor industry trends and developments for products and services to support product innovation
  • Innovate through the lens of the consumer to drive customer value - leveraging research, customer journey mapping and co-creation opportunities
  • Leverage strong understanding of the market and business to support fact-based decision making for product enhancement
  • Develop and conduct business case proposals
  • Project manage the development and implementation of approved product changes including : product design, pricing, sales processes, policy wordings, claims processes, etc.
  • Initiate improvements to processes in order to drive sales and customer experience
  • Pricing Strategy :

  • In collaboration with Underwriting / UW Analytics, conduct financial and competitive analysis necessary to review and refine product coverage and pricing strategy / structure to achieve both sales growth and underwriting performance.
  • Recommend pricing / rate changes understanding impact to financials and key marketing drivers (sales, retention)
  • Implement pricing changes working with cross-functional teams
  • Leadership / Supervision :

  • Hires, trains and coaches team members.
  • Leads and inspires the team towards shared goals.
  • Ensures team has sufficient skills and experience to meet department objectives.
  • Provides performance management as required.
  • Ensures best BCAA HR practices, documentation and procedures are followed.
  • Ensures knowledge transfer and retention in team.
  • Helps develop a pipeline of leaders by managing succession and career development plans.
  • Carries out other related tasks and projects as assigned.
  • What you bring to the role : Education


  • University degree, preferably in Business or Marketing or equivalent combination of related work experience
  • Experience

  • Minimum 5-7 years of results-oriented marketing and minimum 2-3 years in a management role (7-10yrs cumulative)
  • Experience in the insurance industry and / or digital design is preferred
  • Other Skills

  • Proven ability to think critically and strategically
  • Demonstrated marketing project management and execution
  • Proven ability to support business and budget planning needs
  • Demonstrated tracking and performance planning analysis
  • Demonstrated financial acumen and P&L management
  • Proven ability to lead and direct technical / actuarial resources
  • Proven ability to work independently and to take initiative to resolve issues
  • Demonstrated creative, analytical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Organized, effective time management, and attention to detail
  • Proven superior written and verbal communication including the ability to present to Senior Leadership and Executive teams
  • Background Check :

  • Must successfully pass a background check, which may include a criminal, credit, and credential check.
  • Salary plus Incentive Pay
