What is the opportunity?

This is a Scrum Master / Project Manager position at Royal Bank. People in our group lead and deliver technology projects for the RBC Wealth Management and related lines of business and for the operations teams that support these lines of business.

A Scrum Master enables an RBC scrum team to run a medium-to-complex Agile development process that aligns with business and technical needs.

The Scrum Master is a key role within an Agile delivery team that delivers a product that generates business benefits for one or more RBC lines of business.

What will you do?

  • Facilitate collective decision-making, goal setting and conflict resolution within the team.
  • Remove impediments to delivery success through the proactive management of external dependencies, medium-to-high complexity team problem-
  • solving and the development of new solutions or approaches to ongoing challenges; have the authority to execute against new approaches and escalate issues through business and / or IT channels where necessary.

  • Create and maintain the appropriate vehicles for open communication within the Scrum team (e.g. tracker boards) to foster a trusting and safe team environment.
  • Improve team performance by promoting joint accountability for results and solving productivity issues.
  • Facilitate and engage in business analysis, user experience and technical conversations across platforms and through multiple levels of influence.
  • Communicate cross-functionally, ensuring transparency of progress and outcomes; report team progress and accomplishments up and across;
  • facilitate status updates, product demos and retrospectives.

  • Provide proactive coaching (with the assistance of an Agile Coach) to the team and recommend continuous improvement of processes to optimize team productivity.
  • Play an important role in the long-term evolution of Agile practices at RBC.
  • What do you need to succeed?


  • 1+ years of experience as a Scrum Master, where Scrum principles, practices and theory were diligently applied
  • 3+ years of experience in Project Management or related professional experience; proactive approach to Project Management
  • 4+ years of experience working on medium- to high-complexity initiatives
  • Experience with project / program delivery in an Agile environment (medium- to large-scale initiatives), using influence to facilitate outcomes;
  • practical experience with any of the key disciplines required in Agile delivery (e.g. software development, business system analysis

  • Ability to build trust, communicate status and set a course for success with senior executives and inspire greatness from members of project teams in a matrix environment;
  • outstanding verbal and written communication skills


  • RBC Agile Management Framework and SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) experience
  • Experience in financial services, technology, wealth management or brokerage and delivering projects in large corporate environments
  • Certified Scrum Master / Agile practitioner
