The Department of Transportation and Works is responsible for the administration, supervision, control, regulation, management and direction of all matters relating to transportation and public works.
As such, the department oversees the construction and maintenance of the provincial highways; the provision of the provincial ferry services;
management of the provincial government fleet of light vehicles and heavy equipment; operation and maintenance of the provincial government air ambulances and water bombers;
and construction and management of provincial government buildings. As part of a team offering safe marine transportation services, the incumbent will be responsible for the preparation and serving of meals for crew members;
maintaining the galley and related items and equipment with associated housekeeping duties; maintaining food inventory including the required handling and storage of food items;
reconciling of food purchase receipts on the online financial management system; standing watch and maintaining the cleanliness of the vessel and its equipment in the coastal waters of Newfoundland and Labrador;
performing emergency and fire safety duties as necessary; other related duties as required.
Experience working within the Marine Industry in the capacity of Cook.
Cook Certificate recognized by a province or training Certificate indicating successful completion of a cooking course.
Required MEDs SCTW Basic Safety.
Valid Marine Medical Certificate.
Marine Basic First Aid Certificate.
Valid Food Safety and Handling Certificate.
Passenger Safety Management Certificate (asset).
Knowledge of working within the Marine Industry in the capacity of Cook.
Knowledge of food safety and handling practices.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to solve problems independently.
Ability to manage time.
Ability to communicate effectively (verbal).
Commitment to safety.
Submission of Cook Certificate recognized by a province or training Certificate indicating successful completion of a cooking course, Required MEDs SCTW Basic Safety, Valid Marine Medical Certificate, Marine Basic First Aid Certificate, WHMIS Certificate, Valid Food Safety and Handling Certificate.
Certificate of Conduct satisfactory to the Employer.
Vulnerable Sector Query satisfactory to the Employer.
Conditions of Acceptance
Applicants are advised that positions will be of variable duration and terminate on or before March 31, 2019, subject to possibility of extension.
These positions are short term, casual call-in.
