The successful candidate will be responsible for the developmentof a model based controls supervisory system for chassis related systems usingModel Predictive Controls.
The supervisory control system will link togetherseveral entirely new vehicle performance technologies into a harmonious systemthat will adapt based on the vehicle state.
This position involves a combinationof technical ownership, and teamwork with colleagues in the United States andUniversities in Canada.
The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge onModel Predictive Controls and experience of the GM embedded controls andsoftware development process, milestones, deliverables and tools usedthroughout the development process.
Development of advanced Chassis supervisory control systemtogether with a team of specialist in model predictive controls
Ensure functional requirements documentation, Simulink modelsand test cases
Support integrated system design and calibrationactivities
Development Hardware in the Loop (HIL) benches and vehicletest strategies
Create and maintain project management plans, resource, andtiming requirements
Conduct and support peer reviews, AFMEAs (Algorithm), and Designfor Six Sigma projects
Develop creative and innovative solutions and protectintellectual property through patents and publications
Travel requirements of 2 to 4 weeks a year are typical,primarily to Michigan and other locations in the US.
Required Skills and Experience
Extensive experience developing control or diagnostic systems(5-7 year academic and / or professional)
Proficiency with control system theory for embedded systemsincluding state vector feedback control, adaptive control and model predictivecontrol
Comprehensive knowledge of Chassis vehicle systems
High level of analytical ability with unusual and complexproblems
Proactive / results drive individual with high level ofinitiative and individual accountability
Excellent oral and written communication skills
High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively withothers
Ability to work independently and in a team environment, interfacing with GM engineers globally
Ability to travel to the United States
Valid Canadian driver’s license Preferred Skills and Experience
Masters or Ph. D. in Controls Engineering (or equivalent)
Experience with embedded C programming, Matlab / Simulink modelingand code generation
Experience (academic and / or professional) with ModelPredictive Controls
General knowledge of other automotive systems (Powertrain, drivelineand CAN / LIN communication)
Experience with vehicle dynamics modeling and CarSim
Experience with advanced statistical analysis, signalsprocessing, filter design, optimization, system identification and stateestimation methods
Minimum Education Required
Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Computer,Mechatronics, System Design or equivalent)
