Reporting to the Production Planning Manager, the Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) Buyer is responsible for the tactical procurement of goods and / or services required to maintain and support NCA’s manufacturing / operations.

This individual will utilize expert knowledge to purchase goods and / or services at the most favourable price for the company with minimal or no interruption to production, while simultaneously building and maintaining strategic relationships with key suppliers.

Principal Accountabilities : (The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.

It is not an exhaustive list of all expectations) :

  • Negotiate, procure and place orders for raw materials, plant equipment parts and supplies for the organization in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Identify and execute negotiation & cost savings initiatives by managing vendor relationship.
  • Identify and execute value analysis and vendor transfer savings opportunities as a cross-functional effort to deliver cost reduction targets and optimize other performance measures such as on-
  • time delivery & lead time of purchased goods and services, without jeopardizing quality, flexibility and supply continuity.

  • Perform clerical / administrative duties such as data entry, tracking cost savings initiatives and providing monthly status reports vs.
  • objective targets, and reviewing and ensuring correctness of pricelist and upload to ERP system.

  • Coordinate all purchases with warehouse to ensure rapid delivery and reception of goods and / or services.
  • Arrange for payments to vendors for products or services procured.
  • Organize, coordinate, and periodically conduct physical inspections of inventory levels.
  • Handle invoices from vendors, verifying that the information on invoices is for agreed-upon prices, products, shipment date, and shipping method.
  • Work closely with Accounts Payable to correct invoice discrepancies and ensure vendor payments in timely manner.
  • Remain abreast of pricing trends, changes, restrictions, or any other variables that could affect purchasing strategies.
  • Advise scheduling and or production of lead time required to obtain materials, equipment and / or supplies.
  • Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies using diplomacy and tact with vendors.
  • Make recommendations and suggest options regarding expected or unexpected material shortages.
  • Negotiate return of items to vendors and coordinate subsequent credits, refunds, or replacements.
  • Make alternate arrangements in the event of shortages or delayed deliveries to minimize impact on production.
  • Adhere to and enforce compliance with purchasing policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Knowledge and Skills : (The following minimum requirements are normal guidelines and should not constrain the advancement of Post-

    Secondary education in materials management, business, or administration.)

  • Minimum two, preferred four years of experience buying MRO goods and / or services
  • Previous experience in manufacturing processes and building materials industry is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standard purchasing and contracting techniques and procedures.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Navision Dynamics experience is an asset
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Able to consistently represent the company in a professional manner.
  • Sound judgment, shrewd negotiation and decision making skills.
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
  • Ability to respond appropriately in pressure situations.
  • Strong customer service focus.
