Element has a 1 year contract opportunity for a Sample Prep Technician (Environmental). Operating under the supervision of the Inorganics Team Leader, this position is responsible for preparing samples for analysis in a timely and efficient manner, as well as disposing of outdated samples, maintaining order in sample storage.
Perform sample preparation required for analysis
Monitor and dispose of outdated samples
Assist log in with receiving and unpacking of client samples
Assist shipping with preparation of samples for transportation
Input results into Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
Clean glassware as specified in the test method
Maintain good housekeeping at all times to ensure a clean and safe work environment
Request supplies and consumables in advance of requirement by recording needed items in order book
Train new staff in test methods and procedures
Follow the Quality System as documented in the Quality Manual
General duties as directed by the team leader or lab manager
Sample prep personal have the authority and responsibility to :
Prepare samples for analysis in a timely and efficient manner.
Dispose of outdated samples, maintaining order in sample storage.
Strict adherence to the corporate Quality System
Perform test methods as documented
Clean and maintain gas cylinders
Maintain a clean and safe work environment; comply with all rules and responsibilities as outlined under the corporate Health and Safety Policy and Procedures
Work with trainees until approval of trainees demonstrated competence is documented
Maintain training records, resumes and CVs
Seek out their direct supervisor if they are unsure of any job duties or tasks as per the structure shown in the organizational chart.
Skills / Qualifications
High school diploma with related experience

WHMIS / Safety Training
LIMS Operation Training
Proficient in preparation procedures
Understand and follow test methods
Effective time management
Knowledge of disposal protocols
Knowledge of transportation requirements
Proficient in the LIMS applications
Basic knowledge of PC applications
Knowledge of cleaning procedures
Demonstrate familiarity with glassware cleaning specified in the test methods
Knowledge of laboratory safety practices
Knowledge of supply levels and ordering process
Technical knowledge of test methods
Effective communication skills
Knowledge of the Quality System with the ability to interpret and implement Quality Manual
