Our client’s Leak Detection Engineering department currently has one opportunity for a Junior Application Developer. The Leak Detection Engineering team is an engineering function reporting to Liquids Operations located in Calgary (AB).

The team manages multiple Leak Detection Systems for the safe and reliable control of pipelines located in Canada and the US.

The successful applicant will be part of the team responsible for developing and enhancing a suite of tools to support the integrity and safe operation of Computational Pipeline Monitoring (CPM) Leak Detection systems for these pipelines.

Responsibilities

As a member of the Leak Detection Engineering team, you will develop and enhance a suite of tools used to support ongoing safe, reliable and efficient operation of CPM systems.

These tools assist in the maintenance, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, corrective action and administration of these systems.

Your primary responsibility will be to develop, enhance and support software tools used in the leak detection engineering team.

These tools include but are not limited to service monitoring applications, testing and validation tools, support tools, and online monitoring systems.

Other responsibilities include :

  • Program in .NET languages (specifically C#);
  • Work in a testing driven development process to produce high quality deliverables;
  • Create, troubleshoot, validate and test software tools;
  • Provide problem solving, continuous improvement and standardization efforts for Leak Detection-related work processes;
  • Manage the integrity and lifecycle of the software tools in the leak detection engineering team;
  • Support Control Room requests for incident investigation and models for pipeline controller training;
  • Perform testing of all project work in a development environment and be responsible for the safe, reliable implementation of all work in a real-
  • time production environment;
  • This position requires the candidate to provide 24-hour support to the pipeline control centers on a rotational on-call schedule.
  • May require travel outside of Canada (USA & Mexico) and the successful candidate must be eligible to obtain a US work permit.
  • Successful completion of the following will be required :

  • Security Clearance / Criminal Record Check;
  • Driver's Abstract
  • Application Developer Must Have Skills

    Education / Experience :

  • Requires a strong academic knowledge of computer science and associated subjects, including a strong practical knowledge and demonstrated application of all aspects of the software development lifecycle;
  • Ability to critically analyze situations and to troubleshoot software problems;
  • Sound scientific method of gathering, analyzing and reporting on data;
  • Application support and / or problem resolution in time-critical situations;
  • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline;
  • APEGA Engineer In Training designation or eligible;
  • Familiar with computer programming languages (FORTRAN, C#, );
  • Application Developer Nice To Have Skills

  • Prior SCADA, CPM (Computational Pipeline Monitoring) or similar experience and the ability to learn complex software applications will be considered an asset;
