What is the opportunity?

Reporting to the Vice-President, Global Database, Mid-Range and Middleware, the Sr Director, Global Database and Middleware Infrastructure has the complete global responsibility and accountability for the strategy and operations of RBC’s database and Middleware infrastructure and overall environment.

This includes,full decision making authority sorrounding the planning, operational support and delivery of database and Middleware technologies and supporting the global hosting environment for the enterprise.

What will you do?

  • Provide managerial leadership in technical planning, development, support and maintenance to RBC’s Database and Middleware environments focused on superior performance, high availability, and controlled cost to the business while maintaining our safety and soundness requirements
  • Develop and maintain efficient and reliable solutions for business application functionality in the areas of data delivery, multi-
  • function execution and menu driven function as well as reliably and securely storing business data and enabling efficient access to retrieving and updating that data.

  • Lead RBC Infrastructure in the migration to Web and Portal based applications by providing solid support and standards in the areas of WebSphere, JAVA, alternate development processes and platforms for this technology standard.
  • Direct a team of Technical Specialists related to product support and development to ensure a strong infrastructure base for SOA / Java, Messaging, Content Management, Workflow, Business Choreography, Business Process Management, Transaction Management and Relational / Hierarchical Database Management software which the Bank’s critical customer services are based while executing all responsibilities in accordance with the RBC Code of Conduct and Guiding Principles.
  • Define, develop and lead opportunities for service level and cost optimization vis-à-vis differentiated service levels options and execution methods for business application functionality and play a key role in determining RBC’s ability to retool application / re-
  • platform technology solutions, development and deployment of automated tools to improve methodology and functional capabilities using Lean-

    Six-Sigma or similar approaches to improve the operational environment and delivery of infrastructure services to GTI’s clients.

  • This position provides technical leadership globally across the organization across multiple lines of business for database and Middleware technologies to meet the growing business requirements, audit and regulatory requirements, project planning and strategic decision making.
  • Must-have

  • 10+ years hands on technical knowledge of managing database and Middleware technology solutions
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent), MBA (preferred)
  • Experience leading teams that deliver database and Middleware infrastructure and support technologies and support services.
  • Experience leveraging Cloud technologies, DevOps environments, and / or Distributed Computing Infrastructure
  • Extensive experience automating and provisioning technology infrastructure
  • Team player with the desire to own projects and the ability to work with minimal guidance in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated experience in managing operations and projects with multiple models of deliver
