General Description :
The Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) is seeking a motivated and multitask-oriented individual who is flexible and works well in a team environment to fill the full-
time permanent position of Community Health Nurse, reporting directly to the Fort McKay Executive Director, Health and Governance Administration.
The Community Health Nurse will work with other Health Professionals to promote an integrated, holistic health service that is responsive to the needs of the residents of Fort McKay community.
They will also provide professional nursing services for individuals, families, communities and groups in a variety of settings and be responsible for providing health care services to the community of Fort McKay.
This is a permanent full-time position and is based on seventy-five (75) hours bi-weekly.
Administer medications under the supervision of doctors and keep records of symptoms and progress
Deliver preventive programs such as immunization and screening programs
Create and prioritize individual work schedule to meet the needs of clients and community members
Provide comprehensive case management services and co-ordinate services provided through a multi-disciplinary approach collaborating extensively with multiple community agencies (School, Daycare and the Elders Centre)
Assess learning needs of individuals and families, based on assessments, plans, teaches, and evaluate educational presentations in areas such as parenting, nutrition, health care, parental care, breast feeding, safety, substance abuse, communicable diseases, and other subjects as needed
Complete assessments for families with special health needs and makes referrals to other health care professionals as appropriate
Provide services to children and their families who are at risk for development delays or health conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, FAS, etc.
Assess the immunization status of clients in accordance with written protocols, administer immunizations and document immunization record
Prepare comprehensive written reports and recommendations for child development concerns and reviews them with the parents, health professionals, and educational consultants
Report cases of suspected abuse or neglect of children and adults to the proper authorities
Organize, participate, and evaluate health awareness activities, such as mother-baby fairs and school based gatherings
Ensure that client records are kept secure and confidential and maintained consistent with appropriate policies and procedures
Assist in the development of public health policies and support the development of healthy communities
Assist in the care and management of resources in emergency and disaster situations
Through all of the described duties, support efforts to ensure a safe community

Strong Interpersonal Skills
Integrity / Ethics
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required
A minimum of two years clinical work experience is required, with a minimum of one year experience in home health nursing preferred
Registration and in good standing with (CARNA) College & Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta or other Provincial nursing regulatory body
Experience in a wide range of assessment, treatment and therapeutic interventions, health promotion, diagnostic procedures, and follow-
up care in the community considered an asset
Able to submit a criminal record check for the vulnerable sector. This information is collected by authority of the Protection for Person in Care Act (Section 10(4).
CPR and ACLS required.
Experience in a First Nations community is a definite asset
