Reporting to the Manager, Public Works Operations, the Superintendent, Roads and Drainage is part of the department’s management team and is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and coordinating the operations of the Roads and Drainage Division of the Engineering Department.
The incumbent supervises directly and through subordinates the construction, maintenance, repair of roads, streets, surface drainage systems and all types of concrete work.
Other functions include full responsibility of the budget cycle, monitoring cost effective operation and projects. In addition, this position oversees, directs and provides leadership to employees (i.
e. hiring, training, developing employees and overseeing the deployment of work schedules) by ensuring policies, procedures and safety practices are followed.
Other responsibilities include involvement in labour relations issues which entail upholding the conditions of the collective agreement along with performance and attendance management.
Performs related work as required.
The successful candidate will preferably have a Diploma in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 5 years’ proven management experience in public works operations or maintenance field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

g. consultants and technical associations); and requires skill in the use of office computer applications such as SAP and Hansen.
Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
