This position is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operation of the Public Services department. Plans, develops, supervises and trains staff, enforces policies and procedures and prepares and maintains statistical reports.

This is a temporary full-time position until approximately August 31, 2018. Job Duties / Responsibilities : 1.Recruits, supervises and trains Public Services staff.

Plans, allocates and prioritizes workload to meet operating requirements and monitors and evaluates performance ensuring requirements are met.

Ensures timesheets and absence reports are accurately prepared and submitted. Monitors and tracks on-call budgets.

2.Resolves patron problems relating to fines, lost materials, patron records etc. and liaises with appropriate staff to resolve library systems problems as necessary.

3.Ensures that all Public Services policies and procedures are current and liaises with key stakeholders to maintain and update the VCC Library Policies and Procedures manual.

4.Supervises daily cash accounts and gathering of statistical data ensuring it is uniformly recorded. Prepares monthly and annual circulation statistical reports for public services departments.

5.Schedules and chairs Public Services staff meetings.

6.Responds to problems related to library equipment and software in the department. Reports issues to the appropriate bodies.

7.Participates in facility planning in collaboration with other library departments and administration.

8.Keeps Department Head, Information Services informed of departmental requirements necessary to meet service goals.

9.Provides back up to Public Services and the service desk.

10.Performs other related duties as required. Job Duties / Responsibilities Part Two : Required Qualifications : Education and Experience

  • Library Technician Diploma, supervisory training and over 4 years' related experience or an equivalent combination of training and / or experience may be substituted for the required qualifications.
  • Skills and Abilities

  • Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty and external contacts.
  • Shows flexibility, cooperation and support of fellow library personnel.
  • Proven ability to supervise, plan, assign, train and motivate staff effectively and to promote a positive and respective work environment.
  • Ability to lead and perform duties efficiently and accurately within a fast-paced and sometimes stressful, changing environment.
  • Considerable knowledge of library organization and practice, policies and procedures and a thorough knowledge of all Circulation functions and modules.
  • Solid experience with library automated systems coupled with trouble shooting capabilities.
  • Proven ability to support and carry out effective reference and information services in-person, by email and by telephone to a diverse population using print, electronic, internet and media resources.
  • Excellent computer and search skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to make thoughtful and timely decisions.
  • Superior communication skills with demonstrated ability to respond to and clearly relay oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of written an electronic records, files and documents.
  • Superior clerical ability including accurate keyboarding skills and proficiency with MS Office software. Supervisory Responsibility : Days and Hours of Work : Normally, Monday to Friday, 8 : 30 am to 4 : 45 pm.
