We are currently 6 established OBGYNs split between two offices covering 5 FTE at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital. Both clinics are outside of the hospital setting, but just down the street from the hospital and a 5 minute walk from the downtown core.
We serve a catchment area of approximately 60,000. We share 1 in 5 Level 1 funded call and we share 16 operating days per month between the group.
We are looking to recruit another FTE to replace a recent retirement. We are an incredibly collegial group and are looking for someone who wants to be a part of our team.
We provide consultative Obstetrical care to a steady obstetrical unit. Our number of deliveries range from 700 to 800 births per year.
Our very skilled group of Family Physicians and Midwives provide the majority of the primary obstetrical care in our hospital.
We are called in for more complex cases requiring a caesarean section or operative vaginal delivery, however are able to provide home call and are spend many nights on call in our own beds.
The Specialists services here in Vernon include Pediatrics, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Urology, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, Emergency Physicians, Anesthesia, and a Hospitalist service.
We have a new Obstetrical unit with 7 labor rooms and 9 Pediatric / Gynecology beds. We have a fully staffed ICU, however we try to avoid the need for their services.
We also have access to CT, ultrasound and there are plans for an MRI in the coming years.
We have a flexible work schedule allowing for blocks of time off for vacations and both offices use EMR for charting. It’s really important to our group that a new hire is happy working here in Vernon and is an equally supportive colleague.
We would recommend spending some time working with us to experience our location. We will be hiring as of Spring 2018, but are happy to have locums through Fall 2018 to decide on the right fit.
We all feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to live in the Okanagan and get to enjoy 4 full seasons. Our summers are hot with access to three lakes in our community.
Our winters can be snowy at times, but very mild. The snow typically melts quickly in town but remains higher up on our local ski hill, Silver Star, which is only a 25min drive from town.
We also have world class cross country ski trails at Sovereign Lake Nordic centre. Kal Park is a wonderful place to spend the summers hiking or biking, and spend some time snowshoeing in the winter.
There is an abundance of wineries to enjoy in the surrounding areas, which also make the Okanagan a place that family and friends love to visit.
Our downtown core has some local shopping, up and coming restaurants and a few local art galleries, and the Kelowna airport is only a 45 minute drive.
