Function

This position will be responsible for the development of new features for open source runtime technologies and enhancing and maintaining the existing research infrastructure.

Representative Responsibilities

The runtimes are supported across a large number of platforms from hand-held devices to large IBM server platforms. The Research Assistant needs to be flexible working across a number of different architectures (x86, PowerPC, 390, ARM, MIPS) and be comfortable programming / debugging in several programming languages (C, Java, Python, JavaScript, assembly), enjoy performance analysis / tuning and must work well in a team environment (as much design / coding / debugging often takes place in a collaborative setting).

Technical leadership and strong communication skills with the technical team are a must. Hardware knowledge / curiosity is an asset as we often deal with non-

standard configurations. Candidates must be comfortable asking questions and working with limited documentation and enjoy system level programming.

Requirements

  • 6-8 years of System Programming Experience. ·BCS / BSc / Btech / MSC / PHD in Computer Science or equivalent. ·Good knowledge of one or more processor architectures (Intel, Power, z, ARM).
  • Strong skills in C / C Programming. ·Experience in multiple Operating Systems (Windows, Linux, Real-Time OS concepts). ·Familiarity with open source development tools.
  • A good understanding of virtual machine (e.g., JVM) concepts is a plus (Garbage Collection, Just-in-Time Compilation, intermediate representations, etc.
  • Sound Collaboration, Teamwork, Technical Communication, and Problem Solving Skills. ·Ability to assume responsibility and to interface and communicate effectively with others.

    Effective oral and written communication skills and ability to represent the University and Project team in a professional manner to the industrial partner, related project staff and the community.
